I still hope later it will be better, the characters will become more interesting, unable to close the book to have enough of sleep I will turn page after page with the desire to know - what is next. However, nothing like that happens. Not at all. Sometimes I want to find that almost forgotten feeling of reading cheap love stories set in 17th, 18th century which I was keen of in teenage years. Modern romance, even the popular one, bestsellers an so one, can't remind of time flying when you read some page-turner. As going back to the exact book. Knot of clan relationships, hero-virgin (well, that was unusual), some time travelling mistery, something else... Sorry, wrong time for the wrong book....more

On the other hand, here he is not far from nature as well. Evans is not afraid of letting novel's characters die. he makes it seem lika it had to happen and you have a feeling - yes, that is right, it had to happen to get story more and ends as it was prescribed by stars from the very beginning. Why have I done Is this really what the world is reading and admiring? Is the world gone absolutely crazy???
That was the summary. Now some more words.
Why have I done it (reading, in this particular case, listening)? Influence of the society, wide discussions around, kind of interest. Even some time ago having been a fan of something similar in genre, this one is beyond any words I can use to describe what a piece of completely wasted time this is.
Heroine. Is it called schizophrenia when a patient has various personalities? Dear doctors, would you be so kind to look at the prototype of the heroine is this exists? This "inner goddess" and "subconsciousness" look quite suspicious. And I surely would advice to take a dictionary and have a look into it from time to time. Holy cow, murmur, fuck, holy shit seem to be the most familiar words. After hearing them each some minutes brings a negative reaction to use of any of this "pearls". Then doubts living in her mind - he don't like me, he was forced to ask me to dinner, why has he driven here... I think I had really rolled my eyes when hearing any of this, it looked funny for passers-by as I used to listen to the book while walking somewhere :)
Forgive me being quite open, however, I am really concerned if the author has ever had an experience in sexual relationships (well, the fact of children existence suppose to answer yes, on the other hand, all described in the novel makes to doubt positive answer).
I suppose I could go on and go on. It isn't worth to discuss the "book" in details. What really concerns me is the discourse and attitude the writing could give to young readers who are going to be influenced by this and not having enough experience to analyse and see the border between the fantasy and reality. Complete ordinary girl without any special talents, smart and beautiful, not realizing these facts, is going to be picked up by millionaires, given everything you want or may want, taken care of, have ideal sexual experience... Do we really have to let teenagers believe this and be heavily disillusioned once?...more

Then it is youth love story between Evie and Jake, then Robbie's ghost appears, then, then, then...
It seemed pages of totally different and sometimes unconnected events put on the same page without real intention they are leading to something. What makes a great peace of writing great - details. That means every word written has its meaning and appears to be significant in some moment of the story. Here I didn't see even a glimpse of meaningfulness. Just two plot lines of the same woman with some 15 years between. What was even more disturbing is mix of these plot lines, almost every time I struggled to understand which Evie there is now - the young one or the older one. Well, at the moment I could go on for long on things I didn't like. And the biggest question - why did I pushed to finish this one? It was totally unnecessary, because - was that an ending? If was - whom she stayed with - Jake or Piotr??? The phrase "My husband is having a concert" (or something like that) gave no clue to me at all.
Yes, there could be some bright lessons the author tried to say - like nothing is just an accident. Well, actually that is all. I cannot remember any more.

I came across [Book: Passion] in the library and, after read the prolog, understood - not any good to start somewhere from the middle if the story is clsely connected. Thus I got to meet with the google to find some e-books of the serie. Despite feeling of something childish and not feeling quite sure whether I like it, I finished the first book. But the second... No, no! It is too much - I love him so much, I cannot live a minute without him, his wings are astonished. But - having the smallest disagreement (well, just hearing unexpected word) - the world is going to end! everything is over! I have lost him!

I came across the third book looking around in the library. After reaading some pages, doubts grew bigger and bigger (this idea of starting reading from the beginning sometimes is not good at all...) - there is no reading before pre-story. Interest in these first pages created too great expectation from the pre-story books.
So... Fallen is a story of love that comes through centuries again and again. Unfortunate love. Not this time, of course (this is just presupposition based on logic of book writing). And then the story starts. Teenagers, school, mistery, angel, magic and so on. Quite trivial story in nowadays so modern style of paranormal fantasy. Shallow characters. Illogical action - I love you in one moment, then unreasonable quarrels, then the world will broke down without him. Boooring! Ok, I enjoyed some moments. But these 300 words are not worth reading all the book.
So, after having read the first book, I lost every desire to get to the third one :(...more

There is one nice thing about the book, some kind of something new. Despite of cliches used here as well, it is possible to find some new element. As the book is set in Russia it automatically moves me closer to it, I just can imagine the area of city, countryside, people... Still I am not really satisfied with the stile of writing. Seems all the book could be told in max 100 pages, so this way in one book I could read all four of the serie. But no...I was reading around 300 pages of baby-style romance. Most probably I am not looking forward to read other 3 books.
On the whole - good idea and quite poor performance. 2.5 stars...more

I tried this book some years ago but then stopped after twenty or thirty pages. This time not only I continued reading but liked it quite a lot. Irving in a very intriguing manner describes lives and destinies of small group of people where the central role is given to Ruth Cole, whose life is strongly influenced by the fact her mother had left her and her father when Ruth was only 4. Or maybe the beginning is Ruth's birth itself. Or more earlier - death of her two brothers - tragedy that has influenced a lot of lives. Multilayer story that is just telling different ways of living, without judging and discussing what is good or wrong. Enjoy! [Seems I am becoming the fan of John Irving's writing] ...more

Nicholas Sparks creates a touching love-story when bad boy falls in love with totally positive, good and wonderful girl. The problem is just one - the girl has leukemia and is dying. How to accept this when you finally started to believe in God and angels? Well, most probably there is only one way - to accept. Which at the same time is the hardest way.
What is worth mentioning - despite the similarity of plot in the film and in the book, details and mood are completely different. The film is completely American version, where there is a lot of romantics, bad and good guys in school, acts of heroism for love-proving and other totally Hollywood's features. On the other hand, the book deals a lot with religion and belief (what for me was kind of hard as I can't define myself as so religious person). I doubt that nowadays someone would find it romantic to spend time with your loved one reading Bible. Meanwhile in the story it seems quite acceptable act, totally fitting in.
Sweet, romantic and (despite the sad final) positive book which makes you to believe and to wish to be blessed even so much to experience half of that feelings.
On the whole. 3.5 stars. 4 - a little bit too much for romance, 3 - a little bit too little :)...more
