Correct inflections, though maybe people disliked the British voice narrating a story from the United States. I wouldn't have known she was AI. I was thoroughly engrossed by the story, though it was somewhat predictable. The pacing was on point and told in simple prose similar to what a child her age would think. I loved that the book was set in the 1980s who had all the toys I played with at her age. She seemed so real....more

At 12 years-old, Helen has lost her beloved grandfather and her parents sell and consume meth. The story opens with the heroine hitchhiking her way with truckers to Alaska to see a mountain. Helen is no ordinary girl: She is extremely cunning and she' s stolen her parents' gun. Her adventure is steadily ramping up in danger as the story progresses, but I would say this story would be safe for a teenage audience and up while not being targeted towards young adults.
The pacing is phenomenal, the believability not so much. I found tiny plot holes, but screw it, I was entertained....more

This was a great story about a 12 year-old stuck in the middle of being a kid but also wanting to be a teen and be mature. One of her best friends has no interest in falling in love or being mature while her other BFF has a boyfriend. Friction ensues between the close friends as their interests diverge, and soon Tuva finds herself in love with the new girl in class.
