I watched the Netflix version first and I was hoping the book would similar that she has a plan to escape (save, travel, etc) and finds some happinessI watched the Netflix version first and I was hoping the book would similar that she has a plan to escape (save, travel, etc) and finds some happiness. I would like to know how she kept her son. Also I noticed the photos throughout the book are not labeled with names, years, event. I am not sure who the other adults are and did they consent to having their photos in her book.
In the book too much focus (pages!) on her childhood. Strict rules, attending religious school and wearing hand me downs are not hardships. She was lucky to have extended family including her grandparents that did love her; but she does not have the same view. Of course it is her view/her story. I am not sure if she is happy now.
The arranged marriage and no English books are things I cannot imagine.
I think she received a book offer based on her blog and ran with it and did not think of anyone else except her son. Except for the two girls who are friends (Mindy, Goldie) she does not have a nice thing to say about anyone. It seems as if she wants to dislike others and does not give other people a chance including hospital staff.
2.5 rounded to three I did like the rituals/history details of Hasidic. I enjoy reading stories of other cultures. Her writing is flat. I have read other memoirs and despite horrible events have warmth....more
