I have read much about the Black Dahlia case so I found this book quite fascinating. I had no idea that a similar murder had occurred across the country.
The descriptions were chilling, especially since they happened so long ago when things like this were so uncommon.
It is quite graphic. Not many books on true crime give me the chills, but the brutality of these two murders gave me the chills.
It was also interesting to see how murder trials and investigations were handled long ago without the help of DNA and everything offered today. It makes me wonder how many people spent much of their lives in jail just because a jury of 12 was fed misinformation based on nothing but a misguided prosecutor trying to close a case. But I suppose that still happens to a lot these days.
This is an interesting read and it made me think and I鈥檓 still thinking about it. All is not as it seems....more

More like a book you would keep by your chair and pick up to read another chapter as they are all more or less life lessons written to boost you along.

I was 15 in 1975 when it first aired and I remember lying in my bed after a night spent with good friends and SNL popped on at 11:30 and I was hooked.
Definitely groundbreaking stuff.
Lorne was a visionary and he had the guts to put stuff out there that would make a parent in the 70鈥檚 cringe. Mine never knew what I was watching since they were already asleep.
It became my Saturday Night Ritual. I stopped watching a few years back. I just don鈥檛 find it enjoyable anymore. I guess the torch has passed to a new generation or two, but I鈥檓 so glad I got on for the ride at the very beginning when it was truly good....more

This was both heartbreaking and an eye opener for me. The conditions in that prison was shameful. Just because someone is an inmate does not mean they should be treated like they are not human.
Yes, some had done unthinkable crimes鈥. But they were incarcerated for them.
Some were actually housed there because they were driving without a license or petty vandalism by an 18 year old. We have all done stupid things in our younger years.
The treatment of these inmates were along the line of prisoners of war, or what that vision is in my mind.
They just wanted basic human needs.
The loss of life was senseless.
This book I got from my library, but it may turn into one I buy for my own library. So I can read it and remind myself how blessed I really am....more
