I really loved the hockey part, it was not as few as some sport novels I ever read, it was the right amount. Poor Wes tho, he had to play in Toronto, so first round exit was waiting for him in the playoffs....more
This book was so wholesome, it warms your heart and gives me lots of insights about DeafBlind (which I have next to nothing before I read this book). This book was so wholesome, it warms your heart and gives me lots of insights about DeafBlind (which I have next to nothing before I read this book). This book made me realize how unfair the world is for them. I was speechless when I was realizing such things, I imagined myself to be a DeafBlind and I didn't know if I even would have survived, they are much stronger than us, the hearing-sighted people. I was really touch by this book. I'm so glad that the technology development in recent years has helped them so much. I hope we would make this world to be more accessible to everyone in this world.
One more thing I like from this book is the use of Dutch language (or in this book it was called Flemish, I would say it's the same language with different accent, whatever you know what I mean). Even though there were some errors (like the diminutive Cyril used to call Hanne, I don't know if it counts since Cyril was the one who used it instead of hanne), but I think overall it was alright. Now I'm dying to hear the narrator of the audiobook version of this book pronounced such Dutch words, maybe I need to get one just to hear them haha....more
Enemies-to-lovers and sport tropes combination is definitely my new favorite. I really like the tension between them in and off the field, even t3.5/5
Enemies-to-lovers and sport tropes combination is definitely my new favorite. I really like the tension between them in and off the field, even though I would have expected more football (or soccer as Americans say) in it. Some things are also a little bit off about a life of professional major sport league players in general. Like for example, when Gavin got injured. It seems like Ollie, his mom, and their teammates were cooking for him. A while ago I read about the expenses for a professional sport league players during their careers as a player include a fee for a nutritionist and a personal chef. That thread I read was written by a NHLer, but I think MSL players are also the same since MSL is still the fifth largest sport in US and it's a professional sport league so they have to keep their body healthy and fit since it was a crucial part of their job. Moreover, it happened during preseason/regular season idk, so instead of made me swooning, I was laughing hard (derogatory) at that part. There are some others but it didn't really affect much, just a little bit....more
Wow I didn't expect this book was about this topic at all since I rarely read the blurp nowadays. I thought this book was a romcom with cutesy sw4.5/5
Wow I didn't expect this book was about this topic at all since I rarely read the blurp nowadays. I thought this book was a romcom with cutesy swooning romance. I usually prepare myself before reading a book regarding this matter because I know it won't be easy. So yeah I was here while my mental state was not ready for this at all, but I didn't regret it. It was worth it, I didn't expect anything. I just followed the flow and enjoyed the book. I don't give this book 5 stars just for one reason only, that's the last fifty pages of this book. It was too fast for me after all things happened before. Maybe I should have taken a break before I read the last chapter and processed all so it wouldn't be too much, but I was also curious what happened next so I couldn't stop myself. At the end, my emotions were not ready yet and it was too mixed up and I was not ready to bounce back....more
Okay well I enjoyed it, the combination between fake-dating and enemies-to-lovers tropes could never go wrong for me, until the last 100s pages. It waOkay well I enjoyed it, the combination between fake-dating and enemies-to-lovers tropes could never go wrong for me, until the last 100s pages. It was not the best way to end the book. Everything ended vaguely and that last conflict really bothered me, I just wanted it to end. The characters are also unlikeable, except Clay. Tom was horrible, their relationship was pretty toxic, I thought there would be some understandings between those two yet it didn't. This book definitely had lots of potentials, but there were too much conflicts in it so everything resolved artificially, it's so unrealistic in my opinion....more
