Mabel lives on an island. There are 11 houses. No one leaves and no one moves in. One day a new boy moves in. His mom died and he came to stay at his uncle's house. Somehow his mom left the island years ago. The island is the gateway between the dead and the living. Every 10 years, a storm happened and it's when the dead appeared.. every month, 11 houses and its resident perform this routine to make sure their home is strong enough to withstand the storm. The storm is when the dead appeared...
Mabel has a sister with agoraphobia. Her mom's a drunk. Her dad passed from the previous storm. The story talks a lot about Mabel and her everyday feelings of home, love, and life. I don't feel much for Mabel. She seems so bland.

28!! hours of audiobook! The whole time I was hoping Violet would just relax and basked in on all of the love that Xaden was giving out. But no, instead, she decided to make their love complicated. So their time together was mostly bickering.
This story started with Violet and her friends beginning their second year at the academy. They oversee the new bunch of first years students, one of which was Liam's sister. Violet has new challenges and secret missions. One of which got her more troubles than expected. Xaden created chaos to rescue Violet. They escaped the school with many other students. In the new place, she has new tasks and challenges including being jealous by Xaden's ex. New magic was introduced in this story. New wars. There's actions and adventures but there's slow parts too.
I like the dragons and their wit. The narrator did a good job too, increased her speed of reading when the time calls for.

This audiobook is amazing! I would say comparable to Dark Matter! It's scientific, intellectual, and quantum with AI technology. The puzzles and anagrams were fascinating! The chase to solve the mystery puzzle was suspenseful. I loved the intelligent characters of Mike, Dr. Moses, Dr. Gupta, Rachel, and the expert in porcelain doll. As well as the bad guys and their careful steps to do their work and stay hidden.
This story followed Mike. An expert with puzzles. Through an injury, he acquired this gift. He can solve any puzzles or anagrams quickly. He remembers everything he read. One day a psychiatrist contacted him wanting him to come to the state prison to help her with a patient. Her patient loved his puzzles. He was reluctant at first but curiosity won him out. He went and learned of a woman named Jess who was a writer/house sitter and had been accused of murder. She hasn't spoken a word in 5 years. He met her and got to know a bit about the mystery. He dig deeper into what's going on. Then he was being followed. His place was trashed. He was kidnapped. He figured a way out. Every step of the way, as he got closer to understanding what happened, his life and the people who helped him were also in danger.
This story had me at the edge of my seats. The portal into another world was good. I can't believe the bad guy would do what he did. The ending was great. I just don't know about the gender thing... but I'm excited to start book 2!...more

I liked that the main character was clever. Tress was poor and her job was window washing. She also was good at baking pies. I liked her dad. He was poor in money but rich in favors. He did things for others without mentioning it or taking payment but when he needed something, everyone hurried to help.
Tress is friends with the Duke's son but he pretended to be the gardener so that he could hang out with her because otherwise he couldn't. When the Duke noticed their friendship grew closer, he took the family away from the area in search of a wife for his son. At farewell, Tress asked him not to get married and he tried his best not to by being a bored to any woman he meets. His dad came back with a different heir and said that his son was taken by the sorcerer as a punishment for his disobedience to the Duke. Tress wanted to rescue him.
Tress has never known anywhere else except where she lives. It's a challenge to take on this adventure. But Tress likes to think and make plans. She's handy and able to put herself to work in any situation. The other characters were great. I liked Huck and some twists as well as some humor. This YA fantasy book has no romance so any kids can read it.

The story was good. Interesting retelling of Greek mythology. Powerful people taking the title of the Greek Gods. Thirteen people/gods rule them all. One of the thirteen was Hades, and he ruled the lower city which coincided with Hades of the underworld. Zeus gave himself more power to rule the upper city among the rest of the twelve. In this story, Zeus wanted a new wife. Persephone was ambushed into marrying him. She ran and escaped into the lower city. Hades rescued her. They strike a deal, protection in exchange for a weapon. Hades will use Persephone as a weapon to beat back at Zeus. Hades' revenge was hot & spicy. It was open for all to see. Hades is one softie I didn't expect from a bad boy. I like him. I liked the ending. Looking forward to continue the series.

Tensions and seductiThis audiobook has characters with sharp tongues and delicious sexy banters. A bit of forbidden love between witches and vessels. Tensions and seduction. Audiobook was good! I like the magic.
The story has two point of views. Gray/Thorne vs Willow. Gray/Thorne is the headmaster at this special university for witches. Gray/Thorne is a vessel (demon) who lives inside a very handsome body. He has fangs, cold to the touch, and drinks blood so he sounds like a vampire. Willow is the last of her kind of witches and bloodline. The school's Covenant, leader with the same bloodline as Willow lives in the form of bones wanted Willow to wed and bred to continue the bloodline. Her dad wanted her to revenge the school who hurt her aunt which was her dad's sister and to find her aunt's bones. She also doesn't care for the school because it was a place that made her mom miserable to the point that she had to fake her own death to get away. She's now attending the school because they just discovered her existence and left her no choice.
Ivan is a witch who gave up his powers for love mentioned about playing to win but there weren't much actions from him so that was a loss. Willow was given a task she didn't fully understand and gotten with a demon she didn't know kept secrets from her. The outcome was unexpected. The ending left a cliffhanger, to continue book 2 is a must!

Male dominance. He does what he wanted. He wanted a play thing. He said he loved her and care for her. She said no more but he kept going.
She said she hates him but her body can't resist him. She craves for his touch as much as he craves for hers. But she has the right to be mad at him for all the manipulation he did and the betrayal he caused.
I was excited when Ivan showed up in the story and competed to win Willow, a competition he promised to play to win from book 1. But his character changed after the kiss. I was a bit disappointed.
Willow and Lucifer's relationship is toxic. They really don't understand love. But makes sense, since Willow has the mistreatment from her dad and Lucifer's with his dad..
The magic was good.. raising the dead and lots of blood..
It's a new read for me because I haven't read this type of books before. I like the narrator for Lucifer.

18 hours audiobook!! 486 pages! Book 1 ended with a cliffhanger. Book 2, started with an adventure to save Cabell, Tamsin's brother from Lord Death's control.
The beginning of this book has a glossary of different characters and info about them. It helps to remember who's who because there are so many characters.
Book 1 ended with that cliffhanger but book 2 didn't continue. There was a chapter on Emerys first then a chapter on Tamsin and the ladies from Avalon. Somehow they got themselves captured and Emerys came to the rescue. Emerys decided to join their adventures. Their first stop was to find the Bonecutter. I was surprised to meet the Bonecutter. Then they saw Lord Death and his followers did some damage to someone they just met. They saw Cabell and someone else they recognized. They had to stay in hiding to keep safe. Then their journey took them to someone Tamsin knew but disliked. There, they look for the mirror of beasts but found something else instead. Unbeknownst to them, a lot will happen here.
There were a few twists and turns. Tamsin always wondered about herself whether she can do any magic. Cabell questioned his place in life. He made some decisions and it hurt some people.
There are 3 views in this book: Emerys, Tamsin, and Cabell. I enjoyed the 3 views. The majority of the views was Tamsin.
There is an enemies to lovers trope. It starts with hate and insults. I don't know when their feelings changed. Wish there were more of Emerys' views. The romance was very light. Three kisses in two books for two couples.
The audiobook was good with different voices for different characters even the scary characters. The lady in the mirror has some humor. I wonder why she collected eyelashes.
I enjoyed book 1 last year which was called Silver in the Bone. This is my first series read from the author. Will have to check out the others....more

Excellent audiobook. This story is what I have been wanting to read. It makes us think about the choices we make in life and if we are happy with the decisions we made for ourselves. If not happy, would we want to trade our current life with another you in the parallel universe? It might turns out that our current life is better.
This book followed Jason. He's a physicist professor. He's very smart and could do great things but his girlfriend announced that she was pregnant 14 years ago while they were dating and he made a decision to build a family with her. When that decision was made, he had to get a safe job with a steady paycheck. Sometimes he might think that in another life where he chose not to stay with his girlfriend and build a family but instead continue his education and research that his life could be more successful. Well, he got what he wished for even when he didn't consciously asked for it. One night he was kidnapped off the street at gun point and was sent into another world where people recognize him but he recognized no one. Until later they learned that he was not the him they thought he was then his life was in danger. He had to figure out how to work the machine the him from another world built so that he can go back home to his family and save himself from this new world he was forced into.

This story followed Wren. She and her sister are surviving on little in the town of Edgewood. The weather is always winter and cold. The main food supply Wren can obtain is to go out hunting with her bow and arrow. The people in this town are not worried from starvation deaths but from being taken by The North Wind King aka The Frost King aka a God. If the people don't obey to the King's request, harm will come to them. Every now and then they'll have to sacrifice one woman to him. This year, Wren's sister is among the women being offered. Wren afraid to lose her sister so she did everything she can to prevent it.
This book is good in a way that the people who feel they are ugly and don't deserve love got a lesson in life that they too do deserve love and happiness just as much as anyone. This story was well written and I enjoyed it a lot often couldn't put down. The audiobook was good with a separate narrator for the guy's voice and girl's voice.

The story followed Daisy. She was getting over a bad breakup with a controlling guy who cheated on her. She was hanging out with her cousin and Tiktok famous friend. They invited her to crash a house party in town. With nothing to do, Daisy decided to go. Once there, she noticed some things but didn't have a closer look at who the owner was. She heard the owner took her friend aside and had a chat in private. That night they left without her cousin. The next day she went to her cousin's house and he told her about his time at the party. He got another invitation for a picnic and invited her along. There, Daisy was reunited with Jay, the guy she had known since childhood. He's different now. He's rich, powerful, and handsome. She fall for him instantly.
Later Daisy learned about how Jay made his money. Daisy also discovered her own special mysterious gifts. It came in handy when Jay ran into trouble and his smooth talking ran short. Jay is full of sweet words that could make all the girls swoon.

This story followed Lis. Started when she was 16, afraid to be taken by the high born lord for some unknown reasons. Then skipped to when she's over 20, working as a seer and a Courtesan for this Baron. Through intuition she happened upon a situation where she rescued this lord who was captured by a group of people who wanted Hyhborn body parts for personal gain. She remembered seeing this lord when she was 16. She ran into him again at other unexpected occasions and the attraction between them grew. He came to ask for her company. Despite liking him, she played hard to get. This lord is more than a lord and can do magic. The story twist into an unexpected massacre. Lis discovered a secret about herself she didn't know before. I liked how the Saltwise Sea played a part in this story. The kids being on the ship was a chore so there weren't many interesting activities. I love the magic of the crow girl.
This story, the boy Avery and the girl Zib are still in this land that's comparable to Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz because they want to go see the Queen of Wand and traveling on the improbable road. But their travel wasn't as planned and they got pulled in different unexpected direction. At the well they drank some water to cool down from their walk and then they decided to get in for a swim and then a plant pull them down and into another place. There they found a cabin and had the best sleep ever since they appeared in this magical place. This magic land where birds talk and plants can think. Their travel companion is a murder of crows who can come together to become a girl and a drowned girl who long ago drowned and continued life underwater until something happened and she's back up on the surface again.

I'm lucky to read it with a group of Instagrammers. I'm listening to an audiobook vi and I'm enjoying it. I love the cover. Readers followed Violet, daughter of a ruthless General at a college where students are entered in some sort of military academy to become a dragon rider to later fight enemies who invade their territory. Except Violet has been training herself to be a scribe like her late father so military training is no easy task for her. But her mom sent her there and she tried her best. Since her mom is the General who sent many classmates' parents to their death, Violet is almost everyone's enemies. Violet has pros and cons and military training is a challenge for her. There's another group of students that were forced into this school because of something their parents did. It's a punishment for them because this military school has a low chance of survival. Despite that, many students trained their whole life to apply to the school because if they succeed, they get to ride a dragon and be able to wield magic! It's also a highly respected position. Highly recommended. I'm so excited for book 2!

This story continued where it left off from book 1. Tristan and Dylan have made it! They had a goal in the previous book and it worked in this book. Now Dylan is dealing with her injuries and Tristan is experiencing first time of everything in the land of the living. The story has both views within the chapter. There's a new third view in this book. Susanna, a fellow ferryman similar to Tristan. She's surprised of what she saw of Tristan. She loves Tristan from afar, because of their duties, they are always a distance away. Now that Tristan is no longer in the wasteland, she wanted to find a way to follow him.
In the land of the living, troubles followed Tristan and Dylan. For cheating death, they are punished in different ways. Love was instant and lots of lies they had to tell. The story was good for the light hearted. I don't recall why Tristan and Susanna has such jobs. It would drives me crazy. Both books are a bit slow for me but I read them all so it was all good. There's a surprise 6th member in this story. Great set of characters. Good humor. Adventurous. Teamwork. Smart/Clever characters. Young kids outsmart even the security of the museum.
The story followed 5 adopted brothers and sisters range in age from 12 to 15 years old. They're young spy agents working for the British Secret Intelligence. Each agent has his or her strengths to contribute to the team. Rio can read people and determine which security guard they can fool to obtain security clearance. Kat is the team leader in this book and she can see patterns. Sydney can handle explosives. Paris is the oldest brother. Brooklyn can hack computer networks.
