Interesting book. I found it more about what the author considered “good� literature than about how to read it. He makes valid points about the variouInteresting book. He makes valid points about the various sections of novels, poems, plays, etc., many I agree with, some I’m not sure I care about. But I certainly didn’t find how he thinks literature should be read.
Uh, yes there are openings, character, narrative, etc which are the categories he breaks literature into. But bad literature has the same break down as far as I know. So I don’t feel I got from the book what it promised. Nevertheless, the author makes some good points & cites some, what I consider, good literature as he writes & cites from -Shakespeare, Beckett, Proust, Dickens, Dostoevsky, Woolf.-One can hardly go wrong speaking of good literature when mentioning a lineup like that. Not many would disagree. But How to read them is an entirely different manner than naming & citing them. At least I certainly think so....more
I think this book goes right along with his father's Four Agreements series and is superb information on how to take control of one's on life. How to create one's own life and dream to be comfortable. I think it's a book for everyone, but understand it may not be the cup of tea for everyone.
