* Confusing Sometimes two different timelines works out okay, other times it feels strained and overdone. This was one of those times.
* Disconnect I didn't care or connect with any of the characters, except maybe for the senile old mom? I also didn't really care what happened and picked up several other books instead while trying to read/finish this one.
* Hot mess I'm sorry Alex North, The Whisper Man was enjoyable and I gave it 4 stars. This felt like a hodge podge of a little bit of everything and yet mostly nothing. After backtracking so often for clarity, I gave up and forged ahead doing my best. At the end I felt nothing but the above mentioned points and glad to be done.
Based on all the glowing reviews, I almost feel like I just didn't quite "get" this one? No hard feelings to North, and I recommend you still try this book if the author and genre suit your tastes. This one wasn't my cup of tea....more

It's hard to imagine having 12 kids, much less half of them having schizophrenia. This book was fairly interesting, but it also felt like a real train wreck. So much of it is quite awful, and I found it to be a long, drawn out suffering, for both the reader and the family.
This is my third book on schizophrenia this year, so maybe I'm just tapped out on the topic. Still, it was a bit too depressing for me.
Has anyone seen the screen adaptation? I thought there was a Netflix movie, but I can't find it.
