Chemist Elizabeth Zott i“Whenever you feel afraid, just remember. Courage is the root of change - and change is what we're chemically designed to do.
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is the only woman in her team at Hastings Research Institute in the 1960s. While breaking through gender barriers, she meets fellow chemist Calvin Evans and chemistry is made. But sooner than she thinks, she becomes a single mother and the reluctant star of a cooking show to make ends meet. Elizabeth becomes more than just a cooking host as her fans begin to reevaluate the status quo.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus is a feminist historical fiction that is so unique and hard hitting. Life is unfair, even when you do all the right things.
First off, whoever told me this was a romance book deserves to go sit in a corner! As someone who often reads books without reading the plot, I was absolutely taken off guard.
Elizabeth is such a strong and independent character which I’m sure was influenced by a few female scientists of her time. She was really inspiring how she never gave up because why should she?
Although I didn’t relate to her all that much, it was refreshing to see such a strong, bold female lead. I highly recommend for those who love historical fiction feminism and science....more

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova“As you know, human history is full of evil deeds, and maybe we ought to think of them with tears, not fascination.
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova follows three generations of historians, all related in some way or another, and all obsessed with the legend of Dracula, the mystery behind his death, and the location of his tomb. In this story, you have adventure, mystery, and the question Did Vlad the Impaler really ever die?
This was a hugely long, heavy book with plenty of historical information and research. I can completely see somebody being turned off due to the vast amounts of just pure knowledge shoved at you, some most of which isn’t needed for the plot. And it’s around 700 pages.
I really enjoyed something I read on a forum about this book by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ user Anfenwick. “I thought the Dracula of the story was partly allegory for the evil you can find in history. As such, he could be awoken by anyone who goes looking for him, at any time. But historians are maybe especially likely to do that.â€
Conclusion, it was a very interesting read and I learned a lot! I actually know somebody who loves this book so that’s a plus. Recommended if you love history and research (assuming it was all accurate as I’m not fact checking)....more
Mega-influencer Cat Cranwell had it all—fame, fortune, and millions of worshipping fans. But when an app business partnership goePub Date: 16 May 2023
Mega-influencer Cat Cranwell had it all—fame, fortune, and millions of worshipping fans. But when an app business partnership goes horribly wrong, Cat escapes to her uncle in Montana at a national park. There she discovers love in friends, nature, and of course her love interest Zaiah.
I started out absolutely adoring this book, unable to put it down. Melissa Ferguson does a wonderful job of introducing characters and really making you love and empathize with them. Towards the end, I sort of slowed down. I was still enjoying it, but the romance, although good and honest and sweet, wasn’t hitting it for me. He was absolutely perfect and she was the one who had to change, although seemingly for the better.
Towards the end, the author really pushed the moral of the story home—being on your phone and social media all day is bad for your health. I appreciate that she didn’t make it appear that being on these apps was an impossibility without still maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
I read Famous for a Living by Melissa Ferguson as an audiobook and the narrator Talon David did a really good job. Overall I enjoyed this book, especially the overall character buildout and development of Cat and her friends.
