It's both breakneck pace (because of the short lenght of the novel) and slow as heck (since it's just the setup for a pentalogy). What bugged me was the simplicity of the world building. Each country can be described in one word that fits all it's inhabitants.
I don't think I would be as impressed with ths book if I read it for the first time today instead of twenty years ago but I still would would have liked it enough to keep on reading ...more
