I enjoy her stories and characters. This book is at least 100 pages too long. I listened to the audiobook and wonder if a lot of people who read the physical book just skimmed over a ton of Peter's internal monologue. In the last third of the book, it made my brain glaze over - and didn't add anything.
Couple common areas of praise that I find lacking - sex scenes - not bad but the similarities in the men's thoughts during sex kinda made me ...more

So much hard work went into her success. She wrestles a bit with how much of her success is from privilege. I admire her for looking at it, but that part was a miss for me. As a high schooler, she was running back and forth for the weekend parties at one of the best universities in the world. Because her childhood was harsh, she seems to miss that she has a head start beyond the imagination of most people. None of that negates her accomplishments....more

The sex and language are explicit and more than what we usually see. The book did almost fizzle out at the end. I'm not offended by, but can do without the use of c words to describe genitalia. And there are lots and lots of the hero using c*** when describing sex. I'm kinda baffled at the choice because it didn't add anything, but I'm sure turned a lot of readers away....more

There are references to her relationship to God throughout, but there's only a chapter or two that where that's the whole focus. The basics of the story were good, but it veered so far from being the mystery that was promised. The structure, skipping time and changing narrators didn't really work for me. Reading about sex between high school teenagers (even if 18) was kinda uck.
The info on being trans was interesting, but felt very clunky at times. I wouldn't have minded an afterward covering the topic, but that might have missed the intended audience.
And if I guessed that final plot twist from the start........more

I understand the criticisms. The book fails to address the stated question and then goes off on tangents. I didn't object to following along, but did notice the book stopped addressing the premise about half way through.
