I can't put stars to this. It wouldn't be fair. I doubt few people will ever chance upon this novel (?) unless they鈥檙e familiar with Greenwood, South Carolina, but the tale of Marvin is in some ways a universal one: if you grew up in a small Southern town, most likely at some point you knew a Marvin鈥攁n eccentric individual who never fit the mold. Carson McCullers and Flannery O鈥機onnor were inspired by such individuals. By today鈥檚 standards, Marvin would probably carry the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, perhaps among other DSM-Vs. But to classify and delineate a Marvin does nothing but take away the beautiful singularity and humanity that all individuals possess. I suspect you鈥檒l only find this book interesting if you have an interest in the history of Greenwood, or were lucky enough to have had an encounter with Marvin, in the few decades he thrived. Everyone I grew up with has a Marvin story. I鈥檓 glad the author finally put some of these to paper.
