It's like, I get it. You have a shit family and everyone in town except the Eaton family treated you like shit because of who you're unfortunately related to, but one can only take so damn much. Especially when, much, much later in the book, when Beau talks about how he got a job prospect while pumping gas, of all things, Bailey resented him for it? And again, it's like, I get it. But also? It's not that serious. Just like it wasn't that big of a deal when Beau revealed something that NOBODY IN HIS ENTIRE FAMILY KNEW because he wanted to remain anonymous. She overreacted big time, holding this grudge against him because the secret somehow meant that their one or two weeks being in a relationship for real meant that Beau saw her as a "pawn" in "some game" that he "was playing." Like, girl, be so serious right now. Not telling you he owned the bar you worked at had nothing at all to do with you. Calm down.
I hate that she never even apologized to Beau for it, just told him to never lie to her again when he didn't even fucking lie in the first place. And if it was a lie by omission, then he was lying to everyone else, too, even his family. You're not that special, Bailey. Pipe down. I don't know what Beau even sees in Bailey besides the fact that she's hot and "doesn't take his shit." She spends so much time doubting everything, his feelings, her feelings, spends so much time worrying about what the town thinks of her that she became insufferable. Beau deserves better.
Anyway, this book would have been three stars, but then Harvey had to go and make the cousin joke about Jasper and Sloane again in the epilogue that I knocked off a star for how stupid that whole thing was....more

I feel dupWhoever it was on BookTok who said that Elsie Silver is an author who doesn't do third-act breakups unless absolutely necessary lied to me. I feel duped. I can agree to it being necessary in the first book, I'm not as convinced about it happening in the second, but I definitely do not think it was necessary in this one considering the MMC has abandonment issues. One of his anxieties is the fact that everyone he loves either dies or leaves, so the fact that Jasper was solely blamed for the reason why Sloane left in his most critical time of need (and proving his anxiety true, whether she knows that or not), and everyone else telling him how stupid he's being because he's so fucking traumatized from his upbringing? Yeah, this book pissed me off.
But I still enjoyed it, I guess, so it gets three stars from me....more

Like, towards the end, Marley spirals into a depression after her girls lose the homecoming game and just uses that singular loss as a "sign" that she doesn't deserve to live in her hometown or to continue her relationship with Jake, so she breaks up with him and when he tells her that he loves her, she has the fucking audacity to try to tell him how he feels, and then she spends, like, weeks or something being a goddamned coward until, suddenly, she just decides to snap out of it with the help of her adopted sister and childhood bully once she learns that their respective lives aren't as picture perfect as they've been crafted (which, anyone could have honestly seen that had they been smart, but Marley has a habit of comparing herself to others and then feeling inadequate because she "doesn't live up" to her own expectations.
Anyway, I don't personally think think that the male main character (Jake) should have forgiven her so easily or been so ready to take her back, but clearly, he is not me and is not one to hold a grudge (even when he has every right to)....more
I don't read many age gap relationship stories, and I think this one is my new favorite, even though I got super frustrated with the main character. II don't read many age gap relationship stories, and I think this one is my new favorite, even though I got super frustrated with the main character. I felt frustrated with the FMC at first because of how she kept thinking of the MMC as a "boy" when the dude was almost thirty, but eventually, gradually, that frustration almost went away the more she started getting to know him (but refused to let him get to know her, hence the 'almost'). Usually, I'm a pretty emotional reader who doesn't need much to cry at something, so I personally loved it when the big emotional moments happened towards the end of the book. It was like a movie to me, when you're reaching the emotional climax, and then when it hits... it hits. And depending on how much of an emotional reader you, it can hit hard....more

I don't if that was intentional and that I was supposed to read into the fact that because she was discovered at a young age, she was emotionally stunted or something, but until the romance started to escalate a bit more than halfway through the book, I often forgot that I was reading an adult book because a lot of it read like a YA novel to me. Especially with how 'simple' the writing was. It made for fast reading, and I did devour it, don't get me wrong. It just could've been better, tbh....more
