This was introspective and tasteful, but I had the same issue with it that I did Jill Duggar's memoir- this was a bit surface level and very dependant on the reader's blind trust that the author's version of the tale is the most honest and correct one. Obviously this is Jinger's story, just as "Counting the Cost" was Jill's- but both of the books displayed that this family has a lot of baggage they still haven't processed... Which of course, as an outsider, is easy for me to say. I think that Jinger is definitely self aware of this, but it has a negative effect on this book all the same. The whole time it sort of felt like she was dancing around other problems in her life- most notably her family- that contributed just as much to her religious confusion and trauma as the church itself had. Definitely still worth the read, and I will most likely read her other book as well!...more
