I don't know if your high school was like this but mine either was, and I didn't pay attention or it WASN'T because I went to a Catholic school. I find all these high school cliques very condescending just because someone looks a certain way. i.e, a quiet girl who wears a lot of eyeliner, chokers, studs and listens to metal rock would be classified as a goth. Or the head cheerleader who wears the latest clothes and has the best car, boyfriend, house, etc. is deemed as the snobby queen bee of the school. We place prejudices against people just because they look a certain way. I find that wrong. But anyway..back to the book..
What I love about Daphne's character is that she doesn't care. She befriends the goth girl AND the snobby rich girl. She doesn't care what other people think and that to me is admirable.
Quiet High is in an uproar about PROFILE, an experimental program that can predict what a student will do in the future. Kind of reminds me of that Tom Cruise movie Minority Report where the psychics predict who would commit a crime. In Predicteds, it's about a student's crime. Students whisper about other students and their families, basically stereotyping anyone who looks like they could commit a crime.
I have this knack for figuring out who the bad guy is and I was right. Not surprising but Christine really did entertain me and kept me turning those pages to find out who was doing setting up who. I enjoyed it and if you like mysteries just as much as me, I'm sure you'll gobble this novel right up....more

The abgenation faction is selflessness, erudite is knowledge, dauntless is courage, amity is peace.
At 16, all citizens take a test that will help them determine which faction they are most suited to. She takes the test and her result is that she is Divergent, a combination of all factions. Her final decision faction though is Dauntless. To be accepted as a Dauntless member Beatrice must rank high into each of her trial missions.
I won't go into detail of each mission because my reviews are spoiler free but I will say the action and plot starts around the 400+ page. I enjoyed reading about the missions very much but I wished the plot started sooner because I wanted to know what the government was up to. And at the very end, I was left with such a cliffhanger that I'm sure I'll be first in line to buy the second novel. Hopefully, all my questions will be answered. Not to mention that having a love story woven into the plot also acts as a key driver for drama :)...more

This book is sectioned off into three acts, which give the reader a little backstory on all the ins and outs at Ascension High. They include Emily Winters, a popular, yet studious girl who is best friends with Gabby, the most popular girl in school. The only problem? She falls for Gabby’s boyfriend Zach. Then there’s Chase Swinger, captain of the football team who happens to live in a poorer section of town who wants nothing but to keep his status as the leader of the pack. But these two characters are holding secrets of their own, and three girls with mysterious powers are creating a little bit of chaos to make sure they get their just deserves.
Quite shocking to read about some of the inner workings of a high school pecking order because I really couldn’t believe how mean these popular kids are to the “freaks and the loners, whom they deem classmates. Sure it’s nice to read about their POV but I couldn't find anything nice about any of the other characters. Quite simply put: they’re mean and selfish. They know the consequences of their actions, yet they do it anyway! It made me shake my head a couple of times. Yikes!
It did touch upon a lot of key points, friendship, suicide, depression, paranormal, homophobia and loads of drama. If YA paranormal novels are your thing, give it a try. It did entertain me quite a bit, so the author did her job well....more

As soon as I started reading I was in love with the author’s tone and creativity. She opens up the story with such drama that is just too good to pass up. It starts off with Erin’s story: a romantic lustful tryst about a wealthy girl who is heir to her grandmother’s horse empire. Erin’s story is not fiction after all, it’s based on her relationship with her childhood friend Hunter Allen, the good-looking, blonde, blue-eyed charmer.
I was definitely rooting for Erin and Hunter to declare their love for one another. It was so blatantly obvious they were in love. Keeping me in the dark about why Erin was mad at Hunter was just one of the reasons I couldn’t put the book down. I loved how Jennifer Echols breaks the plot of the book with the actual stories they submitted for Gabe, their creative writing professor. The stories were written beautifully and I was hoping for more. Although I did admire how brilliantly real these characters were. They made mistakes just like any normal college student. And I loved how the “rich girl went out and got a real job to support herself. She wanted a real career and did not rely on her family’s wealth to get it.
I believe if you’re looking for a romantic plot with relatable characters then this novel is for you....more

The world has had enough. It wants to rid the earth of humans. One day an earthquake rips across the world and causes mass casualties. The enemy in this book is not vampires, werewolves, or ghosts. It is the people themselves. The Evil that creeps into each and every person’s mind causes normal human beings to rip and tear their own flesh and blood.
Each chapter is dedicated to four Canadian teenagers: Michael, Clementine, Aries and Mason. We follow along as each character is torn between being normal and being evil.
I practically devoured it in one sitting! There’s a lot of action, and a lot of moral questions I found myself asking: What if this happened to me right now? Would I be the leader that would help the other survivors? Would I be as strong as these characters fighting to the death to stay sane and to stay alive? I loved every bit of it and I quite enjoyed reading about Canadian cities for once.
Trust me, if you enjoy any Dystopian novel, you’ll love Dark Inside!...more
