This was a library staff pick and the precious 19-year-old employee at the circulation desk exclaimed, "I loved this!!!!" as she was checking me out. For YA, this was decent, but I am so not the audience. I got tricked into thinking 50 pages were left when really it was the resources/book club discussion portion of the book, so I truly didn't see the ending coming. The writing felt very juvie, but the story was creative enough, so I will call it three stars....more

My main issue was the vulgarity, specifically surrounding the gastrointestinal tract and its various functions, which the author turned all the way up. This retracted from how BEAUTIFUL the rest of the writing was.
The plot was pretty so-so and the characters were mostly unlikable, but the poetry in these pages was remarkable. The back half of this book is doing a lot of the work plot-wise, and quite literally the last line of the story resulted in me saying, "NO FUCKING WAY" which is super rare, automatically earning it a higher rating....more
