Lia is a contradiction as she is naive in the way of how to navigate the real world but is a total professional when it comes to combat and weapons. Though growing up sheltered because your mafia father is afraid of losing like your mother it's understandable.
Ryker is a character I wish we got to see more of because I feel that so many things were left unanswered in regards to his character. His father is a complete psychopath and Ryker is just trying to survive long enough to get away until he meets Lia. I'm hoping he'll get more scenes in the next book because a lot of this book is told from Lia's POV and I just feel like we needed to get Ryker's more especially towards the end....more

I thought it would be good based on the blurb but the writing style was incoherent at times and redundant at others. I didn't love the characters as they seemed shallow and with no real growth or redeeming qualities....more

It was a fast read even if it was over 200 pages long because of all the different stories. Some I didn't consider dark at all while others were dark, though that's just my opinion. I liked the fantasy aspect and that it was about different types of fantasy. No two stories were the same and this collection had everything from mermaids, dragons, shifters, werewolves, orcs, interdemensional travel, psychics, demons and shadow monsters. ...more

Overall I liked the story but at times it felt a little forced. I could see the dislike Rex and Lorely had for Maveric even though it wasn't his faultOverall I liked the story but at times it felt a little forced. I could see the dislike Rex and Lorely had for Maveric even though it wasn't his fault that he and Lorely turned out to be mates. To me Lorely and Rex accepted him far too easily for people who are supposed to hate Maveric's species. The plot of the book overall was good and I enjoyed it but again at times it seemed like it was a bit forced rather than a flowing story. Maveric to was far too calm for the position he was placed in and his emotions didn't really match the situations all the time....more

The Malones are my absolute favorite characters of Laylah Roberts and I finished this book within a day because it was so engrossing and exciting. With Tanner being the youngest and possibly the craziest brother of the Malones he needed a special person to love and Lilac was absolutely perfect for him. With being on the run from a crazy brother to suffering from a traumatic childhood Lilac needed someone like Tanner who would put her first and take care of her the way she needed to be....more
