This book, if described as a food, is like tucking into a chicken that is well seasoned on the outside. But when you split it open with your knife and fork, it is a glossy pink. And it tastes good briefly, occasionally, but most of the time it just tastes rather raw, or a bit dry. It tastes like flesh, which is what it is, but not well-seasoned and marinated flesh. It just tastes of flesh.
And there could have been more done to it, it could have been marinated longer, it could have done with some wine and ginger or something. But nothing was done, and so now it sits in the stomach a bit heavily. You're satiated but now you're just sitting there and feeling the indigestion bubble in your guts.
That's what reading Calypso feels like.
