I found this to be a good story. It was engaging and even though it’s short there is a good twist at the end. I liked the Manhattan setting and how the main character is a ghost writer. I hope Hendricks writes another full length thriller soon!

SUCKER PUNCH: Essays by Scaachi Koul is a remarkable collection of personal essays that are written with wit and intelligence. Koul talks about growing up in the 90’s, dealing with her exes, body image, her mother’s health, the pandemic and her divorce. It’s one of my fave nonfiction reads of 2025 so far and I just love the bright cover!

It’s initially set in London, where the Universalists commune takes over a farm and there’s a missing gold bar. Then the story moves to Edmonton and we learn more of what happened and how the characters are connected. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the full cast as there’s multiple points of view but I found the storyline disjointed. It’s quite dry as the journalist is recounting events to us. While I didn’t love this book I’m still curious about Brown’s previous novel Assembly.

Robertson’s event last month and he mentioned his new book so I was really excited to read it right away thanks to NetGalley. 52 Ways to Reconcile: How to Walk with Indigenous Peoples on the Path to Healing is a great book with 52 actions we can take. One per week. And as I was reading I was already doing week two’s action which is to start an Indigenous book club. I was reading river woman by katherena vermette and I’m looking forward to reading more Indigenous books including All the Little Monsters by David A. Robertson. I learned new things from this book as well like Salmon n Bannock the Indigenous restaurant here in Vancouver and the Indigenous movie Smoke Signals. I’m glad I can return to this book. This is an essential read.

I Would Die For You by Sandie Jones is an entertaining thriller. I enjoyed the dual timelines of California in 2011 and London in the 1980s. The wholeI Would Die For You by Sandie Jones is an entertaining thriller. I enjoyed the dual timelines of California in 2011 and London in the 1980s. The whole teenage girl obsessed with a boy band aspect and the dynamics between a famous person and someone who’s infatuated was very interesting. The audiobook narrated by Imogen Wilde was well done. I was intrigued the whole way through to find out exactly what happened between Nicole, Ben and Cassie. The beginning was very enticing to find out what the secrets are. This is my third book by this author and I’m curious to read her next book too!

OLD ROMANTICS by Maggie Armstrong is a debut collection of linked short stories focused on Margaret as she navigates life, growing older and her romantic relationships. I loved the line in the second story about using chopsticks fluently and how these stories showed the humour in intimacy. I also really enjoyed the way writing was layered in with Margaret the character seemingly being a bit autobiographical as she’s writing a story in a story and then later is writing her life as fiction, as a short story. I’d definitely be interested to read more from this author!

It follows a woman living at a convent and her questioning her life there. I found the writing utterly captivating and I loved how the writing was just like journal entries. The horror scenes are definitely intense and the mysterious aspects in this novel are haunting. I definitely want to read Tender Is the Flesh now!

Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass is a great thriller! I enjoyed her other book Such a Good Wife so I was excited to read this one tooNothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass is a great thriller! I enjoyed her other book Such a Good Wife so I was excited to read this one too. This thriller rotates between 3 women’s perspectives, Shelby, Mack and Florence, and it was great that the audiobook features 3 narrators, Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski, and Petrea Burchard, who were all excellent. Shelby was attacked and Mack’s husband goes missing so we’re wondering are they connected? Florence is a senior joined by her friends to solve the possible murder of her friend’s husband and is that connected too? It was a thrilling journey to find out all the connections and just what happened in this small town. I enjoyed the age range of characters and how the senior citizens who start a podcast and try to solve this true crime lend some comedic relief. I did not guess the ending and I would definitely be interested to read more by this author.
