If you don't like him, just don't read it. If you do like him, but your not from Texas then it may be hard to relate to him. Well, fit both of the boxes. I like him and I am from Texas and so much of what he says in this book, especially his early childhood is something I can relate too. I wasn't beat physically but the quit whining and man-up, don't be a p*ssy, do you need a band-aid for your vagina mentally is quite present when your a man growing up. So you learn to contain those emotions and stop complaining. There's good and bad to that mentally but then again, there good and bad in every situation which in the end doesn't make it good or bad just how we move forward in our life. I love this book, the stories and the messages. If you couple this with another Texas writer Brene Brown: Daring Greatly you may be able to start working on yourself, that is if you aren't already perfect....more

I busted out laughing so many times during this book. It is raw, unapologetic and inspirational. I got this for free through audible and I hope I can listen to it again in the future. This is the second time I read an autobiography about someone having difficult life only to grow up stronger and prepared for the world. I really like Kevin Hart and I have a different opinion about him now but I still respect him for who he is and I will watch every movie that comes with him it. ...more

It has taken a lot for me to process this book and to understand how we can view the world so similarly but come from opposite backgrounds. It is a very interesting read and I really don't know how to recommend a book like this because in the end I had know clue who this guy was. My wife heard him on a TED talk podcast and thought we shared the same views and so I was intrigued to see how he got their only to find out that we have arrived at the same place from two totally different paths and also on two totally different levels, Casey being at a much higher level than me. An incredible story but I am still asking myself why do I care?...more

Granted Wright is definitely leaning left and I cannot image a conservative liking this book but besides that this book is more than just Texas, it is love letter to state, a poem, a grateful citizen to a state that allowed him to call it home. It really grounded me and it spoke to me more as a father talking to their child. I can't imagine anyone who has not lived in the state appreciating this book but for the rest of Texans I would definitely give it a shot. Thank You Mr. Wright. ...more

I wish there was a correct way to describe how this completely and utterly took me by surprise. I was not expecting this and yet it was so satisfying, I am still laughing to myself about some of the stories and in awe of some of the others. My mind has been opened in a new way and this book will be the reason why I change the names of one of my shelves and possibly create a new too. I want this guy to interview me one day. Favorite stories, Dancing Hitler and A week in jail....more

I love science. I love astronomy. I grew up in Houston and lived there for the majority of my life, so NASA is of course where you tell people to go who are not from the area. I was completely absorb but his words, his experiences and his struggles and challenges. I thought I was reading only about his one year in space but got so much more. This is the story of a incredible human's life and you really get the sense of what it takes to be an astronaut. I might just read this book again because I felt like I was in space with him....more
