I've read on other reviews people pointing out that this book is less action packed than TFS, and that is true, however, i read this one much faster since i am so invested in the characters now. I love the narration in these books, it is a character on its own (literally). We have an interesting adition in this book, apart from Essun's POV, we get to read her daughter's, Nassum. Both mother and daughter act like narrative mirrors to each other, we understand that Essun's actions were driven by love, but also fear, and that comes with consequences. I believe the characts are so well written and fleshed out that you understand both characters actions, even if you dont condone them. These books are the perfect mix of complex magic systems mixed with character driven stories....more

It's imposible not to grow fond of our mc, Piranesi is a beautiful, kind and melancholic character. I like how he is in love with his world, how he sees such beauty in it and worships it. Reading Piranesi's descriptions of his home reminded me of the feeling of going outside and stare at the sunshine hitting on the trees and feeling, for just a moment, that that is enough to heal you....more

Wow, this book felt like a time capsule. I sort of forgot how after the pandemic, everything used to be about the pandemic. I really enjoyed this book, i think it captures very well what 'loving life while also finding existing very hard' its like. The subject matter may be heavy but this isn't by any means a slow book, the writing is very easy to digest and it's very funny and full of comedy....more
