I have liked prior Daniel Hurst books I read, so when I was in between books and this one was available on my shelf, I decided I would give it a try. It was super short and therefore a fast read, but this is also where some of my problems lie...it was TOO short.
I started getting invested in the story about the couple that moves into a home and while they are remodeling they find some writing on the walls. The wife becomes obsessed with finding out details of this missing boy and what the messages mean. But it was all so rushed and disconnected. I have just finished the book and I still don't really understand what I just read.
The husband had one thing going on, the wife was worried about missing William, there was a real estate agent, and William's parents, and their marriage, and the HOUSE...but why? How? Who??
I don't know. I have re-read the ending multiple times, still don't really understand.
I think if this would have been explained a little more, or perhaps connect the multiple story-lines together, it would have made more sense to me. Or, perhaps I am not understanding?
Anyway, I didn't HATE it, but I really didn't like it either....it was just ok. ...more
This was seriously the most suspenseful book I may have ever read! I’m talking heart pounding, dry mouth, shaking, keep me awake reading! 5 stars!!

A girl is abducted and is kept in the shed of her captor. Eventually he has to move so she conjures up the idea to move into the house with him and his 13 year old daughter. All while he continues to kill other women. She just has to focus on keeping him happy so she can stay alive.
I am so sad this is over! It was so dang good! I’m going to have a book hangover for a while!
So I read some pretty disturbing, graphic books. I higher the shock value, the more I enjoy the book...am I weird? YeI don't even know where to begin!
So I read some pretty disturbing, graphic books. I higher the shock value, the more I enjoy the book...am I weird? Yes. Am I a psychopath? I am going to go with a hard no on this one...
Now that we have gotten that part out of the way, this is easily the most foul, disturbing, ICK-Y book I have ever read. But also, I couldn't quit reading. I needed to know.
Nutting takes us deep into the demented mind of a 26 year old pedophilic school teacher. Celeste Price is engaged to an age appropriate man (Ford), but she can not look at him without feeling repulsed. However, she preys upon young boys...think like 13-14 year old. However once they hit puberty, she's done.
This was so dark, so so dark. It is very graphic in the relationships Celeste has with these poor young boys. I praise Nutting for writing such a book, its incredibly scary to think that there really are people out there that actually think and feel this way.

This series as a whole (5 books) was a solid 5+ ⭐️‘s. I sped through the first four books without a second thought. I took my time a little more with book 5. It was a little more calm than the others, but amazing nonetheless!
Lana is a vigilante serial killer. She is here to avenge the wrongs done by the most despicable people. She could have never anticipated that she would fall in love with the man that is out there searching for her.
There were parts where my heart was racing as I read the details, parts where I wanted to cry, parts where I was standing up on top of my couch, pumping my fist in the air (ok.not on the couch, I’m clumsy) but still. It was so so good! If you need trigger warnings, this probably isn’t the series for you. I can say no ACTUAL animals were hurt in this series. Everything else is covered in here.
I knew very well going into this book that it would be rough. But I don’t shy away from books.
Even for someone who LOVES Karin SlaI…I have no words.

Even for someone who LOVES Karin Slaughter, cherished the Mindf*ck series, and binged The Girl Next Door, this one still had some cringeworthy moments (but oh the best way!)

I did not have any idea what I was getting into when I started this book, I rented it from the library and decided to read the first couple pages, which actually ended up being half the book in one sitting.
The writing is very unique and for a bit I wasn't sure I liked it, but it really fits the book. It is gritty, dark, and goes into great description of sexual assault.
Donald Ellis is the first. He is the first of the known victims of "Maude". Donald wakes up in the middle of the street, dazed, confused, in pain, bleeding, and unable to feel his genitals. His life is forever changed, and he can't remember anything about what happened. Over time more and more men report similar assaults, and it appears as though a mysterious woman is responsible for them.
I couldn't put this book down, I grew accustomed to the writing style and I was craving more every time I put it down. My one "meh" moment was the very ending. It wasn't terrible and I still appreciated it for what it was, but it seemed kind of sudden.

I wanted to love this book, I thought it really had potential.
Let me start with the negatives... I found The characters to be very unlikeable. The first 75% of the book really didn't do much for me. I felt like a good bit just kind of drug on and it felt very lonely!
Now, as I said, the characters were not very like-able. I found the most endearing of all of them to be one of the "bad guys". But... I loved the ending!
The book starts with the main character, Lo Blacklock, waking up to find an intruder in her apartment. But she doesn't want to tell anyone about it. Weird, right?? Then she goes to see her traveling boyfriend before she has to leave on a cruise ship for work, but leaves on bad terms with him. She boards this ship where she doesn't really like anyone (though, neither did I!) and all hell breaks loose.
She believes someone has been murdered aboard the cruise, but no one will believe her she no one has ever been reported missing. She keeps finding subtle clues, but they too keep disappearing. She knows she saw a woman in the cabin next to hers, but the more she tried to explain, the more it appears as though people question her sanity, literally.
This is the second of Ware's books I've tried, they are just very dark. I like psychological thrillers, and I did find myself at one point rushing to get through the high anxiety inducing parts, but overall, not one of my favorites.
I, again, randomly picked this book and couldn't put it down. The main character, Maya, was kidnapped but has escaped. The story goes throughTwisted!

I love, love, love this book! I have recommended it to everyone I know and pre-ordered the second book. It's so graphic, and disturbing, and yet somehow has a sense of tenderness in the weirdest way you can imagine.
There are some points that were difficult to read, so not for the faint of heart. But if you're looking for a good, twisty suspense...this is it....more
