I found out some things I didn't know about her and I found interesting. I felt closer to her through her sharing of intimate and personal struggles. As a long time sufferer of ADHD and anxiety/low self esteem , I could relate to her. As this was an audio book it was read by the author, and the music that played throughout was wonderful. What Anthony went through as a child I felt as a form of abuse, a parent that shares his addiction with a child is horrid. Plus his early introduction to sex with his father's girlfriend had a negative effect with his future relationships, as he was constantly hopping into bed with every girl he could get. He wanted to be loved but he chose partners that were more in lust with him than in love , he had a way of destroying his relationships whenever he felt a need to move on to someone else. his breakups were also another reason to dive back into his self destructive need to be high. Coming down with Hep C he is lucky not to have acquired HIV too! It was a shame for such a sweet talented guy who watched friends die of overdose, not to stay clean. All those relapses! My only hope for him is that his sobriety holds for him . We have lost too many fascinating and remarkable people to the opiod crisis. ...more

Some were better than others, 1 in particular was horrid. It is a memoir by the author of his time and observations while he stayed in Yosemite. Very lovingly written....more

I found the memoir to also include a love of fiction and to elucidate what the authors were trying to say in these classic and sometimes controversial novels. I felt for these young women who at one time had rights and were treated reasonably and then because of religious zeal were imprisoned and felt they needed to be married off so as to avoid being imprisoned again. We take it for granted here in the states that women are allowed to dress any way they please and children are not forced to marry before they attain adulthood....more

Cancer is a scary word most people don't want to hear , never mind read about, but in this memoir, Will goes about explaining how his mother was able to deal with it. She lasted longer than she was expected to and she was surrounded by those she loved at the end. A beautiful book that memorializes a mothers life.

I found the book to be like a walk through many historic events in the last 20 years such Diana's death, the millennium countdown, 9/11, Bill Clinton near impeachment . I don't think he would have survived if the fatwa had been placed on him today, with the speed of the internet . ...more
