I did read the graphic novel adaptation earlier this year and had similar sentiments. But in the end, I did go through this story twice in a year in two formats so I guess I shouldn't complain so much about storytelling....more

I hate that I don't have a positive review on this, partially because it's a slave narrative and god forbid you hate a suffering narrative. This novel has every ingredient of a great book, but falls short. However, it's invaluable for what it attempts, so I recommend this if you keep tabs on historical minority lit., especially female centered. ...more
