I liked the idea of the plot, I really did. Heathcliff was an interesting character that had real development. People say this is a love story, people say it's not. It certainly felt more like a tragedy to me. This book was controversial for its time, it might still be, and very impressive regarding the author's circumstances.
However, this book felt much longer than it actually was. The pacing was slow, the story felt drawn-out and I felt bored. I didn't like the writing or the narration style. The way the story was told through the eyes of someone else in a different timeline felt poorly executed, and it got old fast. Every character that wasn't Heathcliff was just annoying.
Picked up this book because it has a really pretty special edition.

It started off alright, decent characters, decent writing. There was a little cliffhanger before we dive into the past. But then it just progressively gets worse. I hated the ending, horrible trope. I hated all the characters, they were all acting so morally wrong. It also felt like their behaviour was supposed to be seen as justified. The pacing was off, and I hated the romance. The little cliffhanger in the beginning also spoiled the ending.
I listened to this as an audiobook, so I can't say anything comforting to everyone who hated the way this was printed.

Anyway, I liked this book. It had a mysterious air to it, and the writing was incredibly pretentious. But I kind of liked that. It's no literary masterpiece, but it's a short and easy read. I liked the pacing, and there was an interesting plottwist. And the characters, well, they were awful but also quite interesting. I liked them too.

It reminded me of myself, when I was a depressed rebellious teenager. I think it accurately portrays the type of mindset you have when you feel like garbage at that age. I immensely enjoyed the narrator and the writing. But it's a short book, and it's very character-driven. So, there wasn't much that happened, and I missed some plot.
This book has so much hype around it, it's almost impossible not to be a little disappointed.

As someone who hasn't read the original series, this book wasn't that enjoyable to read. It felt like it was specifically written for fans of the series, and the epilogue even spoils the original trilogy. The writing was fine, the characters were fine despite the insane amount of Lenore Dove mentions. The actual games were only around 30% of the book, and there was less tension because you already know how it ends. There were so many songs that I just scanned through them near the end. Yes, this book is brutal and traumatic. Yes, it's basically fanservice and it could have been executed a lot better. Needs a little more show not tell, but still pretty enjoyable. Especially liked the games and the way those ended.
3/5, and for the author: Please write a book from the perspective of a Career that we haven't heard of (so we don't know who wins) and then give them a massive reality check. I think that would make for a great read....more

As always, the writing was really good. I really liked the characters. They felt real and interesting. I really liked the concept of this book as well, it held such a creepy atmosphere. This book was terrifying at times. It even gave me a nightmare when I read it before bed. However, the book was just a bit too long for the amount of action that we got. The pacing was very slow, especially around the middle, while the ending was quite fast. It felt like it would have been more enjoyable if it was more even or a bit shorter. I really like the realistic setting with some unsettling, otherwordly presence. Near the end there was more paranormal action, which was less my thing.
This book was my lowest rated physical TBR book (on 欧宝娱乐).

And it sure deserved it. I thought the mystery was poorly executed, and I thought the conclusion was unsatisfying. This was pretty bad and I was not invested. I didn't like the characters, most of them had unnatural personalities and they were not written well. The dialogue was bad, I didn't like the time skips, and the writing was mediocre.
