I liked the general concept and I thought it was a really relatable idea for people who love books and get really invested in a series. I noticed several editing errors which always takes me out of things a little bit and that contributed to the feeling of hastiness or unfinishedness. I would say it was an overall positive reading experience, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. Just turned out pretty average unfortunately....more

I liked her writing style - it was quick and snappy. I felt like the short chapter helped propel the narrative along. The relationships between the characters were intriguing. I can see the elements of satire and felt like there was some really great stuff there, it just wasn't quite as strong as it needed to be for me. Overall good read though!...more

It is such a tragedy, and though I had heard bits and pieces of the case over the years, I never knew the full story. I still don't, and I don't know if we ever will, but I am glad that I was able to get a really good overview of the case, the players involved, and the police work that was done (or not) in the aftermath. My heart is with the Spierer family and I hope that they have answers some day.

I appreciated that I could really see and understand the prejudice and bias towards his sister through his eyes. It was very powerful. Now the things I didn't like... I didn't like that a lot of the characters felt flat, it took a really long time for them to make any progress towards finding Nicole (even if that is true to life), and I didn't like how rushed the ending was. One more thing I did like is that there was a lot of character growth for Jay - I really saw the way that this experience influenced and changed him and helped him grow up. That's always something I like to see with YA books....more

I remembered reading a book with a cabin on the cover that had a title with the word Hollow or Holler in it. And I finally found it! It was just as delightful as I remembered i being. It's such a great story full of heart and levity in equal measure. I'm so happy that I had a chance to reread this book and revisit a strong childhood memory....more

It's such a complex topic and Russell dove in fully. It definitely made me think. I am lucky to never have experienced something like this, and being in the head of someone who has was eye opening. It also really highlighted how much Strane was a sad, miserable little man, which I of course enjoyed. I was glad that Vanessa was beginning to accept the reality of what happened to her towards the end, and it's nice to imagine her life improving after the book ended....more
