Elinor Mason‘s father waThis novel was so much more than the title or cover would suggest, and I wasn’t expecting that so I was pleasantly surprised!
Elinor Mason‘s father was a compulsive gambler and drowning in debt led him to the decision of marrying off Elinor to Major Bones - horrible guy - to pay off his debts. Upon learning this, Captain Jesse Randall, who had always felt something for Elinor, decided to marry her to protect her and hence started their “Wedding Journey.
Set during the Napoleon War, the author really captured the struggles and conflict of natives and soldiers alike unwillingly dragged into the war. The love story felt more in the background to this war which I actually enjoyed. And it wasn’t solely about Jesse and Elinor. I got to meet so many wonderful characters whom I utterly adored! They were such courageous, determined people, who never gave up. When one’s step faltered and slipped, another lent a shoulder, and on they carried with their journey. Despite such misery, poverty, and death that surrounded them, they continued to laugh and joke with each other, and even sing! which I thought was really sweet

So anyways, Jack and his sisters Joy and Merry are waiting for their mum but she doesn’t come back. She never comes back. And that’s when their lives change forever. The story then takes place 3 years later and shows how Jack and his sisters are dealing with everything.
When I read the synopsis for Snap, I knew I wanted to read it. And when my friends on here were giving it 5 stars, I just KNEW I wanted to get my hands on a copy. In other words, it didn’t take me long to click that “Buy button lool. I’m pleased to say that I wasn’t disappointed. Snap was a compelling, engaging story with some really great characters. However, my favourite was Jack. He was such a fantastic character and I adored him! It made me emotional at times what he and his sisters had been through; but Jack was a tough nut. And I loved the relationship he had with his youngest sister Merry. I mean, he got her books cos she loved reading even if it wasn’t through the best of means, you know? 😭
Snap is an example of how you never truly know what someone is like or what they’re capable of. A brilliant read for me and one I definitely recommend!

Every time I think about this book I get sad. Ugh! It’s actually finished? Nicholas Eames imagination and writing skills have blown me away. Like honestly, I’m in awe. There was never a dull moment in the story, never a time when I felt that things were going slow. Someone was always either being reckless, or stupid, or getting into petty fights. And I loved it!
Eames not only knows how to write a great story, he’s written some fantastic characters! All of them! So distinct from one another, and yet so powerful when they came together. These characters were constantly bickering and bantering and had me cackling with laughter (not in a cute way might I add, but those are the best kind 😎). However, when it really came down to it, nothing else mattered beside their brotherhood and friendship. And that’s what made this book so amazing for me. I’m really going to miss these characters, but I do look forward to the next book!!!! It will focus on a diff set of people, but I hope to see these lot again!...more
