I seem to be in the minority of people who read this book who dislike it. Just to get this clear, I do not hate this book because it is a classic. I love classics if they are well written. And while this book’s writing style is okay, I did not like the plot or the characters. Oh the characters. Honestly, I’ll try to make this review as short as I can and only include one example. Anne, our protagonist. She is annoying. I understand, she has a sad past so she feels the urge to blab her mouth off about puff sleeves and dresses. She was the first to complain about it and then gets angry when anyone else does. She calls her hair horrible and ugly but gets mad when others do. Tip: don’t say anything about yourself you wouldn’t want other people to say. She speaks too much, and too quickly. This was one of the reasons I could not finish the book. She. Never. Shuts. Up. Spoiler End
I’m sorry but I just can’t with this book. I can’t even imagine how torturous it would be to stick with it and finish it. I can’t really tell if it will have any character development because I didn’t finish it. Maybe Anne gets less annoying, I don’t know. But from what I read, there was none....more
