I have to say that I didn’t know who Gabrielle Union was before picking her autobiography although I had watched a few of her movies.
Autobiographies can be a hit or miss for me. In the beginning, it was leaning towards me not enjoying it, however, things changed, I started laughing at Gabrielle’s stories and enjoying her bluntness which shocked me in the beginning. When picking it up I was looking for something fun, and while it was still fun, it was much more than that as Union talked about her experiences and struggles growing up. It certainly was interesting to see how living in a predominately white neighborhood affected her.

It’s interesting that, besides knowing Lucy and Desi are married, I knew nothing about them and if I hadn’t read Lucy’s autobiography it would’ve stayed that way. This started so good until it wasn’t anymore, which is a disappointment. I really liked how it started, with a question of what would happen if the Earth and all terrestrial objects suddenly stopped spinning, but the atmosphere retained its velocity. Maybe the reason I liked the question/answer was because I like those apocalyptical scenarios and if it had continued like that I would’ve been content, however it didn’t. Somewhere around the 40% mark things got too sciency—yes I know this is a book with scientific answers, I can read it in the title—and since my knowledge of physics is lower than a middle graders (do they even have physics? Either way they probably know more than I) things started to get over my head and from there things went downhill my mind started wandering while listening to it, I almost fell asleep and I just couldn’t wait to finish it....more

It was interesting to see how someone that’s so famous became to be; to be honest I didn’t know what exactly he did for Marvel but I thought it was more than give an idea to the illustrators. All in all I liked this one even though it was too short. ...more

Music nowadays is still important—I can’t imagine my day without music, the thought itself is depressing—but I don’t get the same vibe as when I read this memoir, it’s like people instead of air breathed music which is awesome.

I pretty much knew nothing about her before starting this. Also I wasn’t planning on reading it, but as it was so popular here it made me so curious that I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did.
The whole autobiography is great, I especially loved the first two parts; I liked hearing about her childhood, her education and how she met Barack—not liking him when everyone was impressed with him was very amusing to me. The whole presidency part was the least interesting to me, but it was eye opening, I mean I never thought how the lives of very important people were, what struggles and sacrifices they had to make so hearing Michelle’s experience did put things into perspective.
While reading I also listened to the audio book which is narrated by the author herself and I think that’s the best way to consume this story. ...more

Takođe sam otkrila da me biografije bivših vladarki više privlače od ostalih.

I saw some books that were about important women of the world and, naturally, I was interested and I said I’ll find them and read them in some near future, but then I saw that there’s a collection of biographies about important women from Serbia and I had to borrow it from the library. However, my enthusiasm dropped after the second biography. The writing is too flowery and in the beginning full with metaphors that had some connection with the profession of the lady it was written about.
Now I would insert the first paragraph of the very first biography as I did in the Serbian part of the review, but the original is in Serbian and I don’t know how to translate it to English and also I don’t want to butcher it.
Maybe it’s just me but I expected a more serious and dry way of writing for this type of book, besides that writing I didn’t like that the sentences were abruptly interrupted—I don’t see the reason for them to be shortened.
Some of the biographies were interesting, others I couldn’t wait to finish and it’s good that they were short (two pages plus an illustration) on one hand, on the other I would’ve wished for some of them to be longer because I found them interesting. After about seventy pages I decided to skip the ones I wasn’t that interested in, which turned out to be a good thing for me because I didn’t grew bored. If nothing else it’s a good start to get interested in the heroes of our time. ...more

Five, four years ago I started reading this interesting book, but I didn’t move past 60 pages because I had this genius idea to copy the myths by hand. Seeing this is the second time I try reading this we all know how the first attempt ended.
This book covers myths and legends from all around the world which is amazing. However in a book containing 512 pages 200 of those pages are just Greek myths, don’t get me wrong I like Greek mythology but it’s also the most known mythology in the world and I expected more of the unknown (to me at least) stories; some mythologies were only 6 pages long (Finish myth.), comparing it to the number of pages used for Greek mythology seems unfair.
The mythologies I was a tad more interested in (Norse, Slovenian, African) didn’t satisfy my hunger. Norse and Slovenian mythology were too short for my liking, and the African myths were not well organized, concentrating more on themes than tribes which confused the heck out of me. The most surprising of all were the myths of North America which are beautiful. ...more
