I really enjoyed this smart little novella that packed a memorable story into a short number of pages. Told in a second person perspective, this one has a distinct narration style that will get divisive among readers. In my opinion, this choice completely works here and fits the narrative. I appreciated the conversation on personhood that was woven into the story in a complex, nuanced manner. It felt reminiscent of Ancillary Justice, which is high praise in my book.
I highly recommend this novella to any science fiction reader looking for a smart new release worthy of your time and attention.

I appreciated that this sequel was the completion of a duology so the series did not suffer from middle-book-syndrome. Instead we received a tightly written story that managed to become even better in the second half of this duology. I found the worldbuilding and characters to be richly drawn and developed.
I would recommend this series for fantasy readers looking for a deep story to become engrossed within. You will want to start back at the beginning with The Jasad Heir.

The story starts off strong and continues with a compelling narrative throughout this short novel. I generally liked the characters who were decently complex.
I have previously read and enjoyed most of this author's backlist so it was not surprising that I also enjoyed this one. This is a good place to start with this author as long as you enjoy dark academia because this story is quite a classic one in the genre. While not revolutionary, it was a strong entry in the subgenre.

I'm not sure that this series needed a second book so I'm glad this wasn't turned into a trilogy. It's a fun concept but ultimately shouldn't be dragged out too long.
If you loved the first book, then I'd recommend finishing the series.

I found the characters to be flat and honestly found the plot uninteresting. I didn't expect or need to one to be a new favourite but I was quite let down by the reading experience.

There is always a noticeable overlap between people who love horror and those who love that particular type of music. Unfortunately I don't personally fall inside that venn diagram. It was a good story but without a personal connection I found the execution to be average.
It reminded me a fair amount of We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendix and will very likely appeal to the same readers. I had very similar feelings about both books.
I would primarily recommend this to readers who love this subgenre. I'm not confident this has wide appeal for those who don't have the interest.

This author is good at writing the kind of accessible science fiction that makes for a great starting place for readers new to the genre. Her books don't have a big focus on science or technology. Instead those elements exist in the background. I personally have a preference for science fiction more grounded in science but I can still appreciate a fun entertaining story.
This was a solid narrative that was enjoyable with interesting characters and fun twists and turns. I would recommend this one as a great place to start with this author's work.

I found this novel very consistent with the previous books. My ratings have stayed consistent throughout the series. I find it fun but not necessarily the five star experience other reviewers report. This is a great series for beating reading slumps. I respect that not every series is meant to be memorable. Sometimes we all need some escapist fun.
I would recommend this volume to fans of the series. If you enjoyed the previous books then you'll like this one.

Unfortunately this one did not work well for me. The entire premise and plot felt unbelievable, breaking my suspension of disbelief.
This one just felt silly. I also struggled with the age classification. This is technically classified as adult horror but everything about the characters and plot fit perfectly within the tropes of YA horror. I would have preferred a more mature version of this story.
I did appreciate the author using the aliens as a way to discuss human issues. However, despite agreeing with the author's point, I found this heavy handed.
I would recommend this one as I don't feel it's representative of this author's talent. I wanted this one to be a new favourite and was disappointed when it didn't work.
