I found the characters to be flat and honestly found the plot uninteresting. I didn't expect or need to one to be a new favourite but I was quite let down by the reading experience.

This author is good at writing the kind of accessible science fiction that makes for a great starting place for readers new to the genre. Her books don't have a big focus on science or technology. Instead those elements exist in the background. I personally have a preference for science fiction more grounded in science but I can still appreciate a fun entertaining story.
This was a solid narrative that was enjoyable with interesting characters and fun twists and turns. I would recommend this one as a great place to start with this author's work.

I am fascinated by Mongolian culture and am pleased to see this one moving beyond the basic pieces of history.
I would definitely recommend this one to any fans of historical fantasy looking for a rich world to get lost in.

I can be hit or miss with historical fantasy because I don't read much historical fiction in general. However, this author is always a win.
I found the characters to be developed and the worldbuilding to be well drawn. I just enjoyed spending time in this world.
I would recommend this novel to fantasy readers who appreciate good prose and intricate characters.

I found this novel very consistent with the previous books. My ratings have stayed consistent throughout the series. I find it fun but not necessarily the five star experience other reviewers report. This is a great series for beating reading slumps. I respect that not every series is meant to be memorable. Sometimes we all need some escapist fun.
I would recommend this volume to fans of the series. If you enjoyed the previous books then you'll like this one.

I normally read darker stories but I was drawn to this one because of the representation of autism.
From my perspective, I found the presentation of autism to be authentic and optimistic. I found this one to be so much better than books like The Maid.
My main disappointment is that it didn't play up the cutesy cheese angle more. I have read other stories that involve cheese obsession that have been more fun. I wanted this one to trigger a cheese carving but sadly it did not.

As a Canadian, I was very interested in the perspective of this young indigenous man. The story felt a bit uneven with some sections feeling too long and other sections that I wish had been expanded. Yet overall it was an interesting story that was worth the read.
