For the first 80 pages (at least) of this book I had no clue who anyone other that Violet (the narrator) and Xaden (her boyfriend) were. And very little understanding of the plot. The author did not try to do any sort of "what came before", either as an intro or through flashbacks or dialogue that would clarify the situation. Somewhere around page 200 I finally felt that I had a handle on the main story, although I still didn't remember a lot of the backstory. Then it ended with another cliffhanger/what's going on? I want to know what happens, but I don't want to have to re-read this when the next book comes out, so not sure if I'll try going on with the series.
