Something about being stuck in the snow or frozen lake is very appealing to me.
I found the characters a bit hard to connect with as there were so many introduced in a short period of time and the story a bit on the slow end. I did enjoy the main character's development, with some detail given on her background and charming qualities like her small dog.
The mystery itself was a bit choppy and didn't really draw me in, I found myself not caring much if it was solved or not and how it tied into the past cold case. I found myself a little lost on the case and how it was resolved, but I might have just checked out too early. I did enjoy the lake scene and felt the tension from both people involved.

The plot and characters,After reading the description for The Lost House, I was excited to listen to this audiobook for the snowy, Icelandic setting. The plot and characters, however, could not hold my attention despite returning to this one several times.
The characters did not grab any emotion from me and the story seemed to drag on for longer than needed while not providing much new information.
Some things I did enjoy were the dynamic between Nora and Agnes and the Icelandic visual descriptions made me feel a part of the journey. The narrator, Saskia Maarleveld, did a great job with the voices of different characters and I enjoyed that aspect.

The Companion gets 3.5 stars from me: a quick and easy plot to get into though the first half of the book moved a little slowly.

I may just be tired of hormonal stereotypical women wanting to throw themselves at the first handsome man they run into, but the main character (Anna) really bothered me. Despite that, this was engaging and I was invested in the ending. Although predictable, I still found it an enjoyable read.

Ghosts of Waikiki was a “good not great for me. Still worth a read if you’re into amateur sleuth novels and island life / settings.
The good: - The aGhosts of Waikiki was a “good not great for me. Still worth a read if you’re into amateur sleuth novels and island life / settings.
The good: - The author clearly knows a lot about Hawaiian culture and history and has a lot of love for the islands. - the story starts off great and is easy to get into
The not so good: - characters outside of the main two were confusing and not distinctive enough to keep separate in my mind - ending seemed rushed but slow at the same time, certain parts very predictable
The neutral: - narration by Jennifer Robideau was very robotic but the word pronunciations and accent helped with the Hawaiian names and setting. - the plot was neither outstanding nor terrible, some chapters were written very well and others were slow and hard to stay invested.

I also found the tagline “the first lie wins kind of confusing as well, but this may just be me. I found myself feeling indifferent at the abrupt end. ...more

There were a lot of characters introduced which watered down a bit of the original draw I bc my eyes, as each character was not developed to the same level.
Loved Barbara’s character as well as Tracy’s. The rest of the plot was a little drawn out where not much was happening besides a lot of back story.
Overall, still a good read and the narrator did a great job. ...more

Firstly: the narration by Dan John Miller was excellent, it was easy to get lost in the story and understand. Dan’s energy carried over audio very well and the tone of his voice was an easy listen.
The plot: this was such a unique plot line and the level of details and research Jesse DeRoy must have done to include all the information on safecracking was impressive. I loved all the detail included on different types of safes. The inclusion of corrupt federal agents and different agencies was quite enjoyable as well.
The characters: I thought the author wrote the characters in a way to really make the reader invested in their story and success. I also enjoyed the single POV storyline without too many side stories to track.
The ending: I liked how a few storylines were wrapped up in the end and did not feel like any loose ends were outstanding.
I truly hope we get to see the sibling dynamic duo back for another book soon!

I thought this being a second book gave enough context about the main character (Mud) for it to be an independent read from the first.
The storyline was paced well, even with some side stories on Kiowa history, and I found myself invested in the characters. Where this fell apart a little bit for me was the overall unserious tone. I felt like I wasn’t reading a murder thriller but a more young adult crime novel. Which overall is fine, just different than I was expecting. Still a good read and would be interested in more from D.M. Rowell.

I don’t read a ton of lawyer thrillers so I may be way off base here but the beginning of this gave me Lincoln lawyer vibes.

An artist who takes so much pride in his work he steals back his paintings when not placed where he thinks they should be (lol). The storyline progressed at a good pace and kept my attention throughout with some of the character introductions and surprises.
The only thing that had me hung up a bit were some of the characters who were not developed well enough for me to remember or care much about.
Overall enjoyable and will look forward to reading more from Phillip Margolin. Great narration from Peter Ganim as well, his voice really fit the tone of the book.

I have read quite a few missing girl novels, but this one was different in a positive way. I did enjoy the therapist character segments and the parents of the missing girl’s dynamic as well. The characters were probably my favorite part of this one. ...more
