Ever since the betrayal of her father, Cara and her mother have been having to deal with so many problems and it's all because of him. On a rant, Cara accidently publishes it online which catches the attention of TV producers who want Cara and her mom as the stars on their show—a reality tv dating show for single parents with children. And so it begins
All the Right Reasons was definitely a very unique contemporary from all that I've read so far. Even though it was really boring a lot of the time, I love how this book wasn't about Cara's romance, but rather her mother's. Like has that ever happened before in a YA contemporary??
From the cover and synopsis you'd think it'd be like just any other book being all abt the MC but it wasn't at all. It was 95% focused on her mom and Cara being there for her, letting her mother know that she deserves to be loved, especially after what the bastard of a father did. I just found that so beautiful seeing the relationship between the two grow so much <3
Also of course the rep was amazing. We love seeing disability rep and it not being a character's whole personality. Connor was a sweet guy and Cara

Well that was pretty bad.
I think I'm just going to stick with Schwab's more fantasy focused books because this??? This was not it.
There was no plot whatsoever (until like over halfway), but in general I don't even care 99% if there isn't one as long as I'm invested in the characters. Which wasn't the case at all here.
"Safe does not mean happy, does not mean well, does not mean kind."
For so long, Olivia has longed to be wanted, especially in a place like Merilance... until one day she receives a note from her uncle, Arthur Prior, about coming to live in Gallant--a mysterious, large estate. However, once she gets there Olivia realizes Gallant is not all what it seems to be and there was a reason her mother warned her away from it...
And then goes the page descriptions of the house for almost 200 pages yay! Honestly who doesnt love reading about how a house looks like?? If you don't, you clearly have no taste.
In all seriousness, if you asked me what happened in this book I couldn't tell you. It literally feels like nothing happened at all the first half. I almost fell ASLEEP reading it and that never happens to me?? Never in my life have I ever almost fallen asleep reading a book. Gallant is the first to ever do this to me.
Just why.
Why did it take until the 60% mark for the villain to appear and something to happen LIKE WHAT...more

“All these bodies without blood."
Our narrator is a 17-year old future journalist named Michael who recounts his view of The Bloodless Murders case. The one person at the scene of the crime declares that they'll only tell their story to him and him only -- for some unknown reason.
These murders have been terrorizing the whole country and now the case of the century is at the hands of Michael. He just needs to prove that Marie - the suspect - was only the accomplice and the true murderer is still out there. Easy.
Except... sometimes the facts aren't as easy as they're made it out to be and Michael soon discovers that.
"Tell the truth and shame the devil. I always thought that would be easy. But what do you do when the truth that you're faced with also happens to be impossible?"
Michael as a narrator was... interesting to say the least. I'm impressed at how he was able to separate his emotions from the horrors he saw at times like wow I could never.
But also sometimes he could be such an idiot like if someone was literally pointing a gun at you and about to shoot you -- when you manage to get away the first thing you do is tell the cops/parents right??? MICHAEL DIDNT DO THAT...more

"The bright star holds, even as the darkness rises."
This was my first C.S. Pacat book and it definitely won't be my last. I can't believe it took me this long to read one of her books especially with how much I've seen her name going around. Dark Rise started off pretty slow but as I read it kept getting better and better.
I love the way how the beginning made me think it was just the typical good vs. evil but then changed so dramatically. Like I predicted the plot twists but it was the type of plot twist that I was hoping would happen and am so happy it did.
The characters had so many layers to them *thinking about two characters specifically* like the moral grayness in this book was *chef's kiss* I'm so very much in love with them.
"We don't choose the moment. The moment comes whether we will it or not, and we must make ourselves ready."
I wasn't sure about Will at first. He wasn't really interesting but then I began to like him which eventually turned to love. His character is actually super interesting. The calm demeanor he has, being really careful and logical with the decisions he makes + very intelligent in a quiet like manner. It's insane how he's able to come to the right conclusions so often?? And I can already tell that there is still so much we don't know about Will, I'm so so excited to learn more about him.
"Her world, all her dreams, narrowed down to this cell, her false lives stripped away to show the truth: she wasn't wanted."

Seriously, if you loved the plot of Skyward, then I definitely say you'll probably love this too! The similarities I saw sdfgsdfs it was so cool but I have to say that the idea of giant mechas was even more interesting than what Skyward had. And like the fanart designs??? THEY LOOK EPIC. I will say that the only reason this didn't get five stars was because of that I was a bit confused in the beginning with the information given but that could just be me and my dumb brain and some pacing issues throughout the story but other than that !! EVERYONE MUST READ THIS.
"But I have no faith in love. Love cannot save me. I choose vengeance."
So before reading this I actually had no knowledge of footbinding, so finding about it here in this book... oh god. Just shows another way with how cruel society can be to women istg. And seeing Zetian with this disability and not letting it define her?? I love it. Of course, there were still moments where she did admit to needing help due to her feet and she wasn't embarrassed about it at all, not being stubborn about the whole situation which made me respect the queen even more....more

After being publicly humiliated due to a *ahem* misunderstanding at a high school party, Ellie wants nothing more than to disappear.
And what better way to do that then to run away to England? I mean, I'd totally do the same.
But really, there was just another spot open to study abroad, and so Ellie took that chance. There, she meets with three others from her school, and our charming hot British mate, Will. Of course, she automatically has a huge obsession crush on him. And the other way around.
Ahhh ✨iԲٲ-DZ. Or is it really? I guess obsessing over him isn't the same as love.
Anyways, from the blurb alone it sounded like any typical contemporary romance novel but oh how more complicated and amazing it was.
I admit, I wasn't really a huge fan of Ellie -- like she was pretty cool, and her hobbies were really cute bUT HER OBSESSION WITH BOYS- [image]
Now she's what you call boy-crazy. But Ellie did (kinda?) tone it down on the boys. Definitely a difference when you compare her from the beginning and the end. Still, there were so many moments that made me cringe ahaha and secondhand embarrassment asdsadfs poor Ellie.
And ohmygod her friends were adorkable. (they were a very diverse cast too...more

I really don't have much to say, especially considering how long it's been and I barely remember anything about this book lol.
The two main characters, Merit and Tevin, were such bland characters. I could not for the life of me bring myself to like them. There was just nothing interesting about either of the two and I found myself just wanting to get the book over with because their POVs were long torturous. The rest of the cast was also very 'meh.' The only one I do remember finding occasionally entertaining is Ellery. Definitely one thing I did like about this book was the diversity!
This was more of the case where the side characters -- though they weren't really any good -- are much more interesting than the main characters.
I was so excited for a Beauty and the Beastreverse retelling and it makes me sad that it was so boring. I'm tired of having my hopes crushed :' )
Anyways yup this book just wasn't for me. It also didn't help that I was in the middle of a huge slump so definitely a horrible combo...more
