The premise reminded me a lot of shoujo mangas I have read and loved and made me realize i should probably read more bully romances lol
ngl i really do not love secret identity / withholding information plots, but this was good and didn't frustrate me as much as i thought it was going to.
we love some character growth. and we got it
I will say this book def has some problematic elements. There is some questionable consent throughout, and some violence. It's definitely not the worst I've read, but I think you should know before going in...more
i feel like all of the stories had some goodpoints, but overall I was just not impressed with any of them. The first two were fun at the begihmmmm lol

sometimes you just need to read one spectacular romance to remember how good they can be. Man, does she know how to write some romance!!!
From the get go I was obsessed with them lol. Ugh I wanna reread the Bride Test lol. I can't wait for the 3rd book in the series to come out!!!!...more
i feel like im definitely going to have a book hangover. This series was so messed up lol. But I loved it still. I lovewowwww
i have so many thoughts!
i feel like im definitely going to have a book hangover. This series was so messed up lol. But I loved it still. I love Rin even though shes a blood thirsty little murderer. I really loved her scenes where we get to see just how power drunk she has become. Are they very disturbing? Yes. Did I still love them? Yes.
(view spoiler)[ As I was nearing the end of the book and realizing how few pages there were left i kept thinking "where is this going?? What can she possibly do now?"
Obviously Rin didn't know either. She had a tragic ending, but I don't see how else it could have ended. In what world could Rin exist? The only thing she knew how to do was fight. Survive. I don't think should could have led the country. But she also couldn't trust to serve under anyone else (again lol) There was no room for her any longer.
I do have a bunch of questions though. Why did Daji think waking up the Ragi would be a good idea? In what world would he have cooperated? Rin didn't know the extent of what they did but like I don't understand what Daji's plan was??? Am I just missing something?? At first I thought she was just turning on Rin, but then why did Rin even need to be there? Couldn't she and Jiang just went together? but when he went on a rage she tried to save Rin from him??? I'm so confused!
I had an idea about how this was going to end and I was right!
It definitely said a lot about victim blaming, what it was like as a woman in the 70s/8I had an idea about how this was going to end and I was right!
It definitely said a lot about victim blaming, what it was like as a woman in the 70s/80s. Whoever wrote this must be a true crime fan.
~edit~ At first I thought I liked this, but I can’t stop thinking about some points (and not in a good way) so I’m dropping my rating to 2.5 lol.
I need to think more about it but after reflecting ans reading some reviews, some things just don’t make sense and there’s also some harmful ideas in here.
I think the idea was great, but execution was lacking.
(view spoiler)[ I do NOT understand why viv went to jail "for the rest of her life". So you're telling me if a serial killer is trying to kill me. Either I die or I survive by killing them and then go to jail for the rest of my life??? why! Also Carly's response when she found out what her aunt had did was immediate disgust and im like ... you knew this guy was a serial killer. is it not entirely possible he was targeting her too??? like. I don't get it. Have you never seen the iconic movie Enough with Jlo???? self defense!!
Also the demonizing of borderline personality disorder for no reason was really gross. It was literally only mentioned before he tried to kill (?) carly. Also I don't know why he tried to kill her? How would he even know what her aunt did? I don't think he'd be able to piece together the mystery just from the newspaper files...
My girl Ruth Ware KNOWS how to write an atmosphere. I think it's been my favorite thing of almost all of her books that I've read thus far.
Again the My girl Ruth Ware KNOWS how to write an atmosphere. I think it's been my favorite thing of almost all of her books that I've read thus far.
Again the audiobook was amazing. Imogen does no wrong in my eyes. Best narrator imo lol. I will say the mc did /not/ feel 22 yo to me. Idk if it was the voice or the writing, but to me she felt much for mid to late twenties?
Reading this in end of fall/winter was a *chefs kiss* amazing choice.
I think maybe my least favorite part was the denouement. It went on forever??? (view spoiler)[ I'm not watching the literally dead book club live and now I think the balcony scene was meant to be a second twist??? how??? twist where lol. She literally told us that happened im confused haha
I was also expecting a bigger twist at the end, but alas no. Especially when Erin got the email, I thought there was going to be some big revelation etc. But no!!! there was nothing.
ALSO obviously Liz had "planned" the Eva kill, but how?? Like she was all ready, but how did she know there would be an opportunity for Eva to be alone? Idk maybe they explained it, but it felt a bit to convenient for me. As well for the Elliot kill. How did she know he knew something? Bc of the 1 follow on her snoop account? (hide spoiler)]
I love Agatha Christie and this was obviously heavily inspired by her writing. And then there were none for one and (probably another book, but it would be a spoiler lol). (view spoiler)[ possibly the murder of roger ackroyd?? (hide spoiler)]
I think a lot of ppl didn't like this bc it leaned more mystery than thriller and I'm not realizing that I prefer mysteries probably haha. ...more
I feel like this is the type of book i need to read every year just to remind myself what it means to be alive. I kind of figured out what was g4.5??
I feel like this is the type of book i need to read every year just to remind myself what it means to be alive. I kind of figured out what was going on before the book ended, but that didn't make the meaning any less impactful.
i have so many thoughts! and its hard to organize them all! if you have regrets, or think your life would be better if only you changed *one* thing, id 100% recommend checking this out.
idk i think this book came to me at a really good time and if you're having a hard time processing everything that has happened in this trash fire of a year, i think you could benefit from it too :)
basically, i think everyone should read this book...more

Possibly the most precious book tl ever be written. I can’t tell you how much I love these characters. All of them.
I think i preferred the second book in this series. I really liked this one, but I keep comparing it to the second book and that one is just sooo3.5?

probably the most feminist historical romance I've ever read. The writing was beautiful and intricate, the plot gripping, and the characters amazing!! Sera! Adam!!! Ugh I loved them both
I can't wait to read the next in the series and see who it follows! ...more
