Sure it like one of those books where you got entirely fangirl because it is about your favorite characters, but this was an in-between book that I didn’t found necessary. If I would ever reread the series, I would skip this book. It is like Maas is squishing everything out of the series because it is an automatic buy after the 3 books.
Since it was a book about the ‘aftermath I didn’t expect big plotwist and all but I at least hoped for something exciting to happen. I found it more in the direction of boring towards the end. Okay if you work with changing POV it is always hard but I am just simply no fan of so many characters having a POV in a book. I like 2 but not so many and no matter how much I like all the characters. Especially if like Feyre and Rhys are written in an ‘I-way while the others are in a ‘he/she-way. I simply don’t understand the choice here. Okay it is nice to see it form the eye of the other characters but it still doesn’t convinced me.
The book does give a nice message and it is a book perfect to read around Christmas, because this is just about celebrating Christmas but with another name simply. I had hoped that Maas at least would change somethings.
I would rate this book 2,5 3 stars since I was rather disappointed. ...more

That is the feeling with whatWhen half of the book makes you want to shut it and not return reading, but while the other half has you full attention. That is the feeling with what I ended reading the second book of Carve the Mark. An issue that bothered me in the first book, got even worse in this one.
If we look at the way how the book is build then there is on one thing I immediately noticed because I missed it in Carve the Mark: titles. The different part now have a title (not the different chapters) and in my opinion a very creative title every time: a word in one of the languages mentioned in the book. I really liked this and the link with the part was always very clear in my opinion. But this leads me to the question: why not do this in the first book too?
Also the book exist once again out of different POV but this time not only 2 but 4!!! No that is just too many. Especially if the POV of Eijeh has in my opinion nothing to add and were bad, just bad. Cisi her POV at least has some value but each time I saw her name at the top of the page, I just let out a deep sigh and told myself: ‘come on just get through it. The story is still about Akos and Cyra and their parts I really Reeeally enjoyed but Cisi her parts... But the biggest question here was: why was Cisi just like Cyra written in the “I-person while Akos once again was in the “he- person. No I can’t understand this choice at all. And it really annoyed me the entire book.
Now if I look at the story I was really disappointed at one moment. True, I didn’t saw it coming but it was just stupid. I am talking about the fates of Cyra and Akos. Since book one I am fantasizing about how Akos would die for Cyra her family and the way Roth solved this all big disappointment. Good thing I liked the ending so much. It really like how she plays with Cyra and Akos their relationship. Yeah I was happy with it. And like I told before: the parts of those 2 I love and the things happening were really good and strong.
Cyra is also a character I really like because she is presented strong and almost invincibly but at the same time she is so fragile. There is a nice balance between the two. And it really makes the story better.
I would give this book a 2,5-3 because I didn’t like Cisi her POV. If I don’t like half the book then I can’t give more than 3 stars.
Btw: does anyone know if there will be a third book? It is not really clear. ...more

This boJoin Brie in her fall downwards to the afterlife where your emotions will get touched and you will be surprised. Also you certainly will laugh.
This book surprised me in many ways. True, to be honest I started this book with almost no expectations because I wanted to try a romance for once. This turned out to be a fun experience thanks to the creative way of dealing with the afterlife by Rothenberg.
Like I also said before, Rothenberg really played with the idea of the afterlife. So instead of the Ferryman bringing you across the river to the kingdom of the dead, we now have a bus driver. Also she includes a manual or you have to register yourself as a dead person. There are a lot of fun elements. Not only she plays with how the world of the dead look likes, she also uses the ideas as reincarnation and lost Souls in a fun and original way.
If we take a look at the story line than the book started immediately good. At the first pages I laughed and cried already (okay I cry easily). That all thanks to the fun opener of the story of Brie. But while the story continued, I started to lose interest by the time we got in the middle. Good thing that the end made up for it. This was because at the end the writer gave you one surprise after another. She fully gave you one big twist in the story that you hadn’t expected. Especially the end story was amazing but I am not going to talk about that because it would have been a big spoiler.
A sad thing was that I didn’t like the main character Brie at all. Good thing Patrick at least was funny. Okay Brie was funny too but I still didn’t like her. That was a sad thing about the book.
Over all it was a good book but a onetime read that was a nice experience for once. I would rate the book a 2,5-3. But it is really fun to read once, it just didn’t touched my inner fangirl. ...more

A knife put in your heart at the very last pages in a cloud of chaos.
A way to describe the second book in the Dark Artifacts series.
At the start of this book I didn’t like the way how it is was going. I started getting a bit afraid of Julian but I am happy that feeling is ebbed away although I still lost my liking for him. Also beside Jules being scary, there was just too much drama. I am okay with a book where two love relations aren’t going well but I am not sure what I have to do with Kieran-Mark-Christina and Perfect Diego. Even at the end of the book I would at least have hoped someone would have gotten a healthy relations ship.
Good thing was that when I got over half of the book, it started really getting good but then in my opinion, the author was using too many POV. I understand why she did it because we get a really good view on all the characters but it was too many and that made it harder to fully relate with a character.
Also once again, older characters of Clare’s previous books was present. The only person who is an exception on that is Magnus but only because he appears in every book. Jace and Clary once again should have stayed in their institute. Alec I understand because of Magnus but I fear that next book we also have to deal with Izzy and Simon. And I also found bringing Jess back as a Ghost really unnecessary. But as you see, I am not sure what to think about it.
Although I only have put down a lot of critique, I have laughed a lot and enjoyed it a bit more than Lady Midnight. The plot of the book was also full of surprises which I liked but the ending of this book was one of too many. There happened too much at the last three-four pages and through the tears I wasn’t paying much attention to the last part. What happened with Annabelle at the end was something I disliked. It was like: “O right I have to let her disappear dramatically o well some random black smoke will do.
NO NO NO! That small moment was just not good and the way Lizzy died also felt so random and that made the loss of this wonderful character too hard. I knew that she was going to die because one of the Blackthorns would die (we know Clare) and Lizzy was an important character but not as important as the others.
But well I will have a lot of time to get over that character her death (and we can’t forget Robert) but there just happened TOO much in those last pages it became chaotic. BUT I have to admit that her very last phrases of the book just so well thought was that I even cried more. I am sure Lizzy is waiting for the Blackthorns in Los Angeles.
A last point I wane write about here is how Clare always uses …how to put it…but well gay couples, autists etc in her books and now Diana her transgender. I like what she does with that but she is overdoing it.
Does she even realize she has THREE gay people in ONE family? That is just too absurd! And I felt like Diana her transgender story was put in there so random. Once again I like what the writer does but overdoing is never good just like here.
Even with all the critique I really liked the book, like I said before and just like Lady Midnight I would give it a 3,5 but Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ doesn’t allow that so I am going for a 3 because of the end I won’t give it a 4.

Clare her newest series gave me mixed feelings. She made me cry with Julian and I didn't have a grudge against any of her characters (normally there is one at least who I truly hate). But there also were moments I was bored and disappointed but luckily after some more pages, I once again fell in love with it.
This writer was just like she did with her previously books, able to create characters I all loved for different reasons even if I can't explain them. It is impossible to not fall in love with each of every well thought characters.
The one big minus of the story (although it is also a plus point) is the big interference with both The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices. Although my love for both Jem and Tessa is high, I rather had fantasized about them than to meet them here again in a different perspective. The same with Clary, Jace, Simon, Magnus and the other gang members of T.M.I.
Personally I never liked Clary and I was glad to have a change of characters, even if we already met the Blacktorns in Clare her first Shadowhunter related books. And that was something I very much liked: how she continued on books with people we already met but now fully out of their point of view. But like really, the mentioning of Clary and Jace for one or two times was more than enough. Their appearance wasn’t necessary. Just like Magnus short appearance. Please, let Malcon have his part.
3,5 stars would I rate it and maybe more towards the 3 because of the moments I was bored and the reappearance of old characters but maybe because of the great link she made with Edgar Ellen Poe, I gave her 3,5....more
