As is typical of Kerouac's writing, there are parts where he gets a little rambly and self-indulgent and loses the reader; however, there are also some transcendent moments and fascinating observations. I particularly like the part at the end of the book where Kerouac tells about his time as a watchman at a fire outpost in the Pacific Northwest....more
