I don't know why, but I was expecting this to be more creepy and suspenseful. It has its scary parts throughout the story, but overall, it was just ok.
I liked the main idea. It was very interesting, but I also felt the story a bit repetitive and predictable. Although there was a big plot twist, I saw it miles away.
What l also enjoyed was the fact that the story is told via multiple perspectives, and Hannah's, the child, was the best!

Dolores Claiborne is such a memorable character. Although she endured a lot and gone through so much suffering, she is true to herself and onest in telling her life struggles even if that involves murder. She is one strong lady who's not afraid of standing up for herself in most stressful situations... and there were a few.
Her relationship with her husband wasn't good, but she loved her kids and did what was best for them. As for her employer, Vera, that was a difficult person to say it nicely. I would have snaped so many times to Vera's behavior and her hurtful words, but Dolores was very attentive and understanding.

Bestia a fost în primul rând thriller cu accente de horror. Mult suspans, scene orifiante, personaje psihopate, crime cât cuprinde și răsturnări de situație fără număr.
Apoi a fost o poveste istorică, descriind Madridul din anul 1834, invadat de holeră. Au făcut o treabă excelentă pe partea aceasta, simțeam totul în timp ce citeam, un amalgam de sentimente: mirosul străzilor, disperarea oamenilor bolnavi, neputința săracilor, demența bogaților sau chiar asprimea preoților. Holera a adus în oraș mult mai mult decât moarte, i-au întors pe oameni unii împotriva altora.

Este povestea a doi tineri care încearcă să supraviețuiască unei lumi crude. El să fie liber prin violență, ea să mai reziste încă o zi ca prostituată. Dar el o iubește și vrea să o salveze. Va face tot posibilul să reușească, dar nu a stat să se gândească la consecințe.
Tinerii aceștia au o sete de viață și de fericire incredibilă. Mai ales el. Dar prin el reușește și ea să își dorească să trăiască.
Sunt multe scene violente și limbaj colorat dar foarte real redat, mai ales la cât de intens trăiesc adolescenții.

Prima dată când am văzut această carte m-a atras faptul că este descrisă ca fiind aproape un thriller. Pentru mine thriller este un cuvânt declanșator, mi se aprind luminițele de fiecare dată când îl văd și devin instant curioasă de carte.
Iar Fata cu un singur ochi a fost perfect descrisă. Chiar dacă la baza poveștii stă un mister, o sinucidere, o fată neînțeleasă, cartea a fost foarte bine construită pe plan amoros.
Vali, o tânără care are nevoie în mod constant de adrenalină, locuiește într-un apartament împreună cu câțiva prieteni, toți băieți. Se îndrăgostește, iubește, își trăiește viața cum consideră ea, fără să se gândească sau să îi pese de consecințe. Dar încă din momentul în care Nata s-a sinucis, Vali s-a simțit ca o înlocuitoare a ei, iar colegii de apartament vor să dovedească faptul că moartea ei nu a fost o sinucidere. Pe alt plan, Vali îl întâlnește pe Marc, un procuror aparent șarmant dar care îi complică viața mult prea rapid și fără atenționări. Aceștia încep să aibă o relație incredibil de toxică dar și acceptată cumva în mod conștient.
Mi-a plăcut mult cum a fost descrisă relația lor, interacțiunile dintre ei și discuțiile distrugătoare. Era clar că amândoi aveau lipsuri pe multe planuri. Am simțit-o pe Vali poate chiar mai adânc ajunsă în prăpastie decât Marc, deși lui nu îi pot ierta multe.
Am așteptat finalul, sperând la anumite decizii importante, dar am fost luată prin surprindere. De două ori. Bang. Bang. Excelentă!

Triptych is the first volume in the Will Trent series and I have no idea why I've waited this long to start it. I have a feeling that this will be as good as Grant County.
