The slavery plotline and the plotline about Gav's powers never connected, and as such, the ending wasn't very satisfactory, and I never felt I went anywhere.

Lindholm is great at conveying the claustrophobic atmosphere of Ki's in-laws' place, and at showing Ki's silent, devastating grief.

I liked how all the disparate plotlines tied together, I found the end threat to be actually threatening, and I very much liked seeing Death on his human thing and Susan's attempts to stay normal. Also, Susan threatening the wizards will never get old.

Also, amazingly, Carey is doing a complicated love triangle thingum that does not drive me crazy, largely because no one is really lying to each other. I am a little sad at how she resolved it, but she managed to do it in a way that did not make me sporky and did remember that Imriel was invested in both sides of the triangle.

The story of Death in Bridges of Madison County was great, and I gave an additional squee for the Death of Rats. Unfortunately, all the other not-Death parts were deadly boring. Still worth the read for the Death bits though.
