Is there a funny sidekick? The only character that might have a personality is her fellow apprentice mage, if annoying is a personality. Not to mention the complete lack of chemistry ... but once again, how can you have chemistry if you have no personality?
I'll probably read the next, but only because there is nothing else to read right now....more

I was presently surprised to find out this book was an academy book with fated mates and a hidden destiny. I guess from the intro I just thought it would be like a secret society revenge book or something. I didn't love the bullying or hints of mind control. One of my pet peeves is the mind control or manipulation trope and it was hinted pretty hard in this book that her sister was using something like this. But once again, we don't know because no plot points we realized or resolved in this first book! What a great surprising read though. I honestly was hesitant to read it because it didn't seem like my kind of book, but alas, it was right up my alley....more

I forgot the "goddess" nickname that's used so unnaturally over and over again. The story is pretty typical though (not that I minded), girl discovers she has rare magic, that she has to hide. She's then taken to a magical academy where she meets some fated mates. Eventually she is exposed, setting up the storyline for book 2. I think I would have eaten this up when I was in jr high. As a now eternally 29 year old, I felt like the writing was extremely juvenile... Especially where the mfc was supposed to be 21....more

Slight spoilers ahead:
Well, in this book, not only is Aileen stumbling through some new powers, but she's been hit with a forget me spell anytime she tries to think of certain things ... Moreover ,she almost died multiple times (losing consciousness and showing up in a new scene). The readers are experiencing this with her, ultimately resulting in this foggy writing I mentioned above.
Will I buy the audio? Absolutely. It will be interesting to see if that makes the fog better or worse....more
