Definitely a 3.5 rounded up. I loved the detail, the characters and the whole set up but it just meandered a bit too much for me! Too much deviation from the mystery? Maybe. I loved the characters even if they all came across sometimes as a bit twee. Now the back story is set I think I'll enjoy the next one in the series more though. A good read but a bit plodding

**spoiler alert** A well written story of "blissful" domestic life in a country house in Yorkshire (so we are led to believe) A slow burner of a plot, the fantastically builds to a predictable yet still satisfying climax. Characters you want to know more about and care for but all seem to have their own secrets to keep! Loved the atmosphere of this book, the author really captured the countryside and just how remote it can be. Loved it.

A witty mystery solved by the dashing hero Peter. Who isn't afraid to get his kit off, drink. in dive bars or use his charm to solve the crime! Not a great read but a fun read never the less. Vidal's wit shines through in the writing style and the setting also give you a glimpse into the bitchy world of Ballet. Fun to read, I'll probably read more.

Beautiful and tragic. Well written historic story showing a glimpse into the not so distant past where you were not so free to love who you wanted nor be who you wanted to be. What I did find was though, that I struggled to like any of the trio of main characters, but maybe that was the point. Excellent book, highly recommended, I'll be telling everyone to give it a read.

Firstly thank you to First Reads for my advanced copy. I loved the premise of this book, friends bought together and a mystery slowly unravels. BUT I honestly was disappointed by the delivery. The pace was slow and events took far too long to occur, the twists were predictable and the ending done by other authors many times. That being said, the book was well written, the characters relatable and the setting definitely had me craving for a holiday. I found the swimming references a bit too heavily inserted (and wasn't surprised to find out the author is a swimmer) Maybe I've been spoilt by reading the "group of friends trapped with a potential killer" genre over and over again, I don't know but this one just lacked something for me. I did enjoy the little chapter openers about how best to kill your best friend though and maybe if the wit of these had carried through more the book would have been a better read for me. A solid 3 star read but nothing more.

Is this book well written? No. Is this book perfectly edited? No. But this book is lovely, truely lovely! It is a wonderful reminder of the joy in "things" which link us to our past. We've become so obsessed with clear spaces and empty rooms that we often get rid of things that will bring us joy later in life. Luckily there are people like the author who is willing to climb into skips (dumpsters) and recover our history. A wonderful story of two women living in New York, separated by decades. Told after the finding of an old red diary thrown out. Loved it!

1952, the age of the country house and its exciting parties is dead! So here we have a wonderful evolution of the country house crime book. Miss Marple as always is sharp as a pin as she visits an old school chum at her country estate now being run as an institution for criminal lads. Murder, double bluffs and a wonderful Drawing Room conclusion! A good read indeed.

I loved the idea of this book! I am a huge Greek history nerd and the idea that they still exist and battle for survival really grabbed my attention. Too long, not enough detail and too much information for me! A disappointing read
