I do find it hard to remember everything necessary for these books as there are so many characters who all have powers, it feels impossible to remember what everyone's power is. But also there are so many things that are just mentioned briefly once only to become very important later on and yet never be described properly again, so I'm stuck with gaps of information because there's too much information in these books to comb through which I think is a major writing flaw. I will finish the series, as I said last time, and I am beginning to become more interested in certain characters and what will happen to them next....more

It was written so well and I loved the glimpses into Frances' teenage life, I found that I really related to her, especially her relationship with Emily. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there were a few sections where I felt a little lost and that I was missing something or not understanding it properly. Overall, it was a phenomenal book....more

The writing was convivial and also descriptive in a way I don't think I have seen before. It was a masterclass in human nature, characters and how we operate. My one criticism is that I don't quite understand how Lana became so frightened from seeing Elliot's notebook, afterall, they had been discussing, essentially, it's contents the night before. Nevertheless, I shall be recommending this book a lot. The twists were shocking and yet each made sense as you uncovered more and more of each character and their motives. Character is fate, afterall....more

Especially as the main character is unlikeable in nature and yet relatable with his thoughts regarding ingsoc. He has horrible views towards women and seems to have no issues with most morals. I believe he was made to be unlikeable in this way, and yet a protagonist that you cannot help but hope excels the world he is in. I thought it rather clever. I did think and hope that O'brien would be on their side though and was rather shocked to find out he wasn't. Whilst reading, I also realised that this book is also the origin of the phrase "room 101", not just "big brother" which I find rather remarkable. Two well-known and frequently used quotes in modern days stemming from the same exact place is very cool. I also loved how much Orwell used the word "literally"! It's very full-circle haha Overall, it was a good read!...more

I love the style of writing where it is almost biographical and almost in the present. Sam was my favourite character, through and through as I understand his views on being disabled. As I neared the end, I began to become worried that it would turn into a romance for Sam and Sadie but I am proud to report; it did not. It truly is a tale of remarkable friendship. One that will always be there no matter how many years they are apart. There is few books where friendship is the key theme....more

I did think it would stick truer to the carol, like 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie did with the nursery rhyme. I enjoyed the story of class and the rich helping the rich. I also loved how everyone was entangled in webs of secrets that bled out as the story progressed. However, as soon as the focus was put on the guests as suspects, I knew it must have been one of the actors. And as soon as the bottle of whiskey was mentioned I worked out that Claire was, in fact, Lily's mother. Parts seemed easy to work out whilst others I couldn't have guessed at. Although I do wish we learned more about Carl. He seemed like a good character who was only used as a victim. Would love to have known more about him.
