For the cop??? I'm so confused oh my. I want to know what will happen with that now This was better than the first, thankfully, although I did still feel as though I was missing bits and that so much was eluded to but never actually said I found that the urgency to solve this murder was less, and yet the reason and murderer were more compelling than the last...more

There was so much unnecessary information and it took so long for it to get started. With the manner it was written, I always felt a few steps behind and was often confused about who knew what, how and when. And there were far too many characters for me to keep track of them all and of their information. The reason for murder seemed outlandish to me and a bit far fetched as well....more

I became so enamoured with the Metropol and all the familiar faces that popped up. The story of the Count and Nina progressing into that of the Count and Sofia was a gorgeous telling of the nature of life. I, myself, am housebound due to health issues, and it struck me just how much I related to the Count. Although we are both stuck in one place for entirely different reasons, the sentiments are same; envy, placacity and so much more. I do wonder what happened to Sofia after she reached the Embassy though as not much was said after on that point. A beautiful read....more

I love the style of writing where it is almost biographical and almost in the present. Sam was my favourite character, through and through as I understand his views on being disabled. As I neared the end, I began to become worried that it would turn into a romance for Sam and Sadie but I am proud to report; it did not. It truly is a tale of remarkable friendship. One that will always be there no matter how many years they are apart. There is few books where friendship is the key theme....more

That being said, it was not the romance which made me like this book but rather the culture and the way of life in the 1950's. That stuff fascinates me. However, I did find the end a bit lack-luster and felt it almost let the book down. I loved Aunt Judy, though I thought she would have been on Lily's side more, understanding the situation a bit better. I thought she would be more sympathetic....more
