I live for second books. I can’t say for sure whether that will be the case here until the final book is in my hands (weeping that I don't), but this was good. Very good. No problem at all, because those books were compulsively addictive. What ended up bringing down my enjoyment was the world-building. It felt like a convoluted mix of "alt history" with fairy tales in mythology to the point where I couldn't tell what the book wanted to be.
With that said, I can easily see this book doing well with a younger reader base. It just wasn't for me and that's fine!...more
