This book does have some things that a good editor would have caught. Referring to the shuttle between Grand Central and Times Square as the 鈥淪 train鈥� is bananas. There were a a couple other handfuls of weirdly phrased sentences, but since I listened to the audiobook, I won鈥檛 go back and quote them. Regardless, I was momentarily taken out of the story enough times to mention it.

Freya is an inconsistent lead. Witty, clever, and unfulfilled at some points, and a completely whiny airhead at others; I wanted so much more for her. There was a missed opportunity in not spending more time on Freya developing her powers and fighting skills in more detail.
I鈥檓 not sure if it鈥檚 the style of writing, or personal preference, but I occasionally would lose track of where characters were. Going back a page (or 30 seconds, as I typically listen via libro.fm), and realizing that they hadn鈥檛 been narrated out of the cave (for example), they just weren鈥檛 in the cave anymore. I found it jarring.
The narration by Nina Yndis was fantastic.
Obviously, I will read the second book when it comes out in a few months, but I鈥檓 not holding my breath for it being more than skin-deep....more
