I can't give books like this a star value, it feels like someone saying "hey, rate my debilitating trauma, o-5." Nope, I won't do it.

Female friendships have and will always a source of wonder and confusion. The cliques, the tribalism, the breakups. In this well crafted book, full of very digestible history and research, Watt Smith peels back all of the layers of female friendship.
I agree with a lot of the reviews, I really enjoyed and appreciated the hard work that went into this book, female friendships are one of the most enriching parts of my life! However, I would have liked to feel a bit "closer" to the story. More anecdotes, more personability, more relatable tales of love and loss in these relationships....more

Is it weird that I classify this as a "sweet" read. Not in a sappy Nick Sparks kind of way, but its just so deeply heart filled.
When a woman in her early 40's goes missing in the Appalachians, it's all hands on deck. The game warden is fully devoted finding her, and volunteers have gathered to search and rescue. But there are things about this woman that seem suspicious, reasons that could have caused her disappearance. It may not be as cut and dry as a woman veering off the trail.
This was great to listen to, awesome narration, it adds so much vibrancy to the story. I loved the different voices, including the missing woman, telling the story from their perspective. It didn't take long before I felt like I was on the mountain with them, and just as invested as bringing the missing woman home....more

This is a quick and easy beach read, you could knock it out quick in a few days, and it would do exactly what it was meant to. I enjoyed the pace and readability of this book. There are unexpected moments, and plenty of mystery....more

I have now read quite a few of Belle's books, and I've liked most of them, but not all of them. Unfortunately this was a miss. But the reviews for the book are good, so maybe I'm the one who missed something.
This is the story of two women, both tangled up in a dangerous diamond heist, one through family, the other through circumstances. I can't put my finger on why, but I never got into this story. The characters were uncompelling, and the plot felt thin. ...more

Others may enjoy it, the chapters are broken up with interesting poetic verses, kind of poetic. I just couldn't get around the fact that that the plot just doesn't move. I kept reading hoping that it would ramp up to something significant, but after enough time, I just stopped trying....more

The husband of huge social media mogul May, of "Mother May I" has been murdered, and the May's mansion has been burnt down to cover it up. All five of May's children, also named for different months of the year, are suspects, and each has their own reason for wanting to see May fall, but who actually did it, and why?
You got to be careful with stories like this. It's an delicate balance having a lot of players, but not TOO many, lest it get to bogged down. That's exactly what I felt happened here, too many suspects, too hard to keep them apart, it becomes overwhelming and hard to care. I did enjoy the book, but I admit to feeling lost on occasion and fading in and out of the plot....more

Oh wow, this is a story that, if I were to read again, I'd be reading with a highlighter and page tabs. There is so much important material to absorb in this story of multiple African women, all known or related to each other in some way, all making their way in different systems, and grabbling with issues in their world, as well as with themselves.
There was one section, that, despite my very best and multiple attempts, I just couldn't grasp. It made me loose hold of the whole of the story a bit, but not irreparably. I still felt a large impact, and there is a lot about this beautiful and intricate novel that will stay with me....more
