i can’t believe this was only my SECOND christina lauren novel. after reading love and other words earlier this year and falling in love with it, i truly cannot believe it has taken me this long to pick up another novel of theirs.
the love story, the steamy scenes, and the two main characters were to die for.
the amount of times i had a smile plastered on my face, laughed out loud, or was covered in chills totally makes up for the small portion of the book i didn’t *love* and could have done without.
just as i rewatch my favourite christmas movies every year, i can totally see myself rereading this book every christmas season ...more
enjoyed this one, but didn’t love it and won’t be rushing around to recommend.
i also can’t help but wonder if i would have enjoyed this book more if enjoyed this one, but didn’t love it and won’t be rushing around to recommend.
i also can’t help but wonder if i would have enjoyed this book more if i didn’t listen to it. after listening to tjr’s, one true loves, and devouring it (and giving it five stars), i thought it would be safe to listen to this one, but the narrator was different and may have been a bit annoying (just my personal experience, no offence to her because she truly did a great job)
anyways, i think i also went into this book with fairly high expectations after one true loves, so that may have played a role in how i felt about this book.
but overall, cute. not tjr’s best and i predicted the entire ending.
i now have a 50/50 experience with tjr loved daisy jones & the six and one true loves did not love this or evelyn hugo. ...more

historical fiction is proving to be one of my favourite genres and the circus setting had me intrigued. truly, this book was everything i had hoped it to be.
loveable characters, beautiful writing, and a story that will always stay in my heart. i’ll likely have a craving to read this book every year moving forward.
highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a good historical fiction novel.

i had no plans on reading this book, so i’m not totally surprised by my review.

there was not a single thing that was appealing to me about this book, but after reading two taylor jenkins reid novels and giving them BOTH five stars, i figured i’d give evelyn hugo a chance, since, apparently, i love taylor jenkins reid now lol AND so many of my friends recommended this book over and over to me.
daisy jones & the six and one true loves stole my heart. within minutes, i was obsessed with both of these books and they now live on my favourites shelf.
evelyn hugo, however, is a different story. sigh.
it’s really hard for me to love or be invested in a book when i don’t like any of the characters. i know i am the minority here, but i really did not care about evelyn hugo. so it was hard for me to care about the book. it was really really hard.

i didn’t hate it, but it was extremely meh and i won’t be recommending it.
“the soulmate equation isn’t a book i would have picked up if it weren’t for reading two christina lauren books prior and loving them both. also, several of my friends really enjoyed this book, so i definitely thought i would at least like it, if not love it, too.
it was extremely predictable and i’m just going to say this one wasn’t for me, but will continue to read books by these authors and hope for better...more

i watched the normal people mini series this summer after a friend had recommended it to me and i felt like i just wanted to keep living in marianne and connell’s world, so i had to read the book and i’m so glad i did.
this book is perfect and i will absolutely be reading it again. maybe once a year. i know i’ll be craving it.

convenience store woman is brilliant and i think everyone should read this at least once in their life. for me, it will live on my favourites shelf forever.
this book does an incredible job at shining a light on the expectations society puts on us and the life timeline that is deemed as “normal proper job, finding love, marriage, kids and if someone doesn’t live their life according to this timeline how the people around them are so quick to judge, think something is “wrong, or assume they are unhappy with their lives.
keiko, the loveable main character, is the character i didn’t know i needed. she’s sweet, she’s funny, and she will live in my heart forever.

sooooo funny story about this book i paid $2 for it as it was wrapped up at our local bookstore for a “blind date with a book deal.
my interest was piqued when i read it was set in washington, d.c. and about someone returning to society. that’s all i knew about it before buying it and i figured i couldn’t go wrong with it only being $2.
let me say i would have NEVER bought this book had i seen the cover or read the title. definitely not something that would grab my attention AT ALL.
what a pleasant surprise, though ☺️
i honestly loved this book. the writing wasn’t anything spectacular (i love beautifully written novels, which this was not), but this book reminded me of how much i enjoy reading different stories and genres.
i think it’s easy to get caught up reading the same genre and then, after a while, it feels like you’re just reading the same thing over and over.
this book definitely took me by surprise and, although the writing wasn’t “beautiful like the novels i usually read, i actually want to read more from pelecanos!
also, this book should DEFINITELY be made into a movie!!!! ...more
