there’s no denying it, mona awad is a new favourite author of mine for 2023, but i just didn’t love rouge as much as i was hoping to. howeverrrrrrrr i’m very much in a weird headspace right now and i think it’s more of a *me thing* rather than the book, so i do plan on coming back to this when i’m feeling differently and doing a re-read!

the stafter getting married this past summer, i was fully invested in this romance novel about a wedding planner (ama) and a wedding florist (elliot)
the story grabbed me right away and i loved the different point of views, alternating between the female mc and the male mc, but the timeline hopping from present to past was also so well done. often times when i read a novel with multiple povs and different timelines, i have a favourite, one i prefer reading than the other. however, that was not the case with forget me not. both ama’s and elliot’s povs were so great and i love how the past and present timelines both held my attention and interest the entire time.
ama was a unique character, which is why i think i liked her so much. she wasn’t really your stereotypical female mc.
i’ve said it before i don’t think it’s physically possible for me to give more than 3 stars when i don’t like the characters.
our main character, eli’ve said it before i don’t think it’s physically possible for me to give more than 3 stars when i don’t like the characters.
our main character, elise, actually wasn’t bad. had she been, i don’t think i would have been able to get through this book.
in the return, we have 4 best friends: elise, molly, may, and julie. i’m usually able to read a book and not get caught up in whether or not things would be realistic or not, but i truly just don’t understand how these four girls have remained friends over the years. they are, of course, all polar opposites and it doesn’t even seem like they really like each other? i don’t know. it was just weird and i didn’t find it realistic that they’d all actually remain friends.
aside from that, i didn’t love the dialogue between characters. it was very childish, in my opinion, and i had a hard time with that.
i did listen to this on audio and i wouldn’t recommend that, either. the narrator had a good voice, which is why i was able to make it through this entire novel, but the different voices she used for the characters wasn’t consistent and i found that really difficult to follow. it just wasn’t the best listening experience.
having said all that, there’s something that kept me hooked the entire time. i truly did want to see how this ended, which is why i’m giving this 3 stars. i love horror novels, but this definitely wasn’t my favourite, however, i can see why people would enjoy it, especially if the characters and dialogue don’t bother you the way they did for me!
although this was my first rachel harrison novel, i’m definitely interested in her other books! i know this was her debut and i’m curious about her others now. hopefully i will enjoy them more ☺️...more

i saw night of the mannequins recommended on booktok by someone i follow, so i thought i’d give it a try!
this was my first stephen graham jones novel and it definitely won’t be the last.
i went into this blind, as i often do, and it grabbed me from the very first sentence. also, if you’re into audio books, gary tiedemann does a phenomenal job with narration. i am extremely picky when it comes to narrators and i could have listened to tiedemann all day (am i the only one who is reminded of jason bateman when hearing tiedemann’s voice? lol)
night of the mannequins is bizarre, odd, but the perfect horror to dive into if you’re in the mood for something strange.
i was so excited when i saw this was a story from dracula’s first bride’s perspective!!!!
when it comes to giving it a rating, i was flip flopping beti was so excited when i saw this was a story from dracula’s first bride’s perspective!!!!
when it comes to giving it a rating, i was flip flopping between a 3 or 4, but for me 3 star ratings are for mediocre, middle of the road kind of books. a dowry of blood is most definitely not mediocre or middle of the road.
did i love it like i thought it would? no but it’s because i wanted MORE! and from what i see a lot of others who rated it 3-4 stars feel the same as me we just wanted more! and i think we feel that way because of the delivery. a dowry of blood is a love letter written by dracula’s first bride, constanta, which is cool, but i think this is why we leave this novel feeling like we want more.
i did listen to it on audio, and although the narrator did an amazing job, i’m actually wanting to read the physical copy and see how i feel about it!
would definitely recommend if you’re into dracula....more

but after seeing it over and over on booktok, often described as a favourite/must read thriller, i thought i’d give it a shot!
i was immediately invested in the story and the characters (grace and millie) and i also really enjoyed the past and present timeline it was done really well, i thought!

i guess i’ll begin with my intro to the genius that is mona awad. my intro to her work was earlier this month with her novel, bunny.
if bunny was 10/10 (which it was), all’s well would be 10,000,000/10 (which it is)
honestly, if i owned a physical copy of this, i’d go straight into a reread.
i listened to this on audio, just as i did with bunny, and once again i was blown away by the narration. sophie amoss is just so good. by far my favourite narrator.
audiobook performance aside, all’s well is a masterpiece and is truly why i read. i was hooked within the first few sentences and i couldn’t put it down. i inhaled it in less than 3 days.
our main character, miranda, is hands down one of my fav mc’s and i loved her sarcastic tone i laughed out loud multiple times.
however, this story hits deep. i personally don’t live with chronic pain, but i think anyone who has experienced or has lived with an invisible illness will also be able to relate to miranda’s story and experiences. i personally could.
this will forever be a favourite of mine and i will be that annoying friend telling all of my friends to read it.
awad is 2 for 2 for me right now and i’m so looking forward to reading rouge soon!! ...more

if you’re not sure about this one, i highly recommend the audiobook. the narrator did a phenomenal job. it was so entertaining and hard to put on pause.

i initially had no interest in reading any of her books, it’s just not the genre or type of book i typically read, but after seeing them pop up over and over and over again on my tiktok feed, i became mildly more interested. then, love on the brain was available on audio, so i thought i’d give it a shot expecting a solid 3 star, mediocre type of book i was *not* expecting to enjoy this as much as i did!!!! i really actually loved this.
the main character, bee, felt so unique and i really liked her. i also loved levi. all the characters were honestly so great and brooke bloomingdale does a phenomenal job with the narration. i would listen to anything she narrates.

it’s been a long time since i listened to an audiobook, but was craving one and was drawn to colin jost’s memoir.
prior to reading this, i really didn’t know much about colin at all, but i always really enjoyed watching him on snl! i thought this would be an entertaining read, but more mediocre. however, i was laughing out loud within the first 10 minutes and continually on and off throughout the 8 hours of audio.
i had no idea his mom was so involved in 9/11 the way he shared about her experience had me sobbing.
such a fun listen! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
