*sigh*
i literally shrieked when i saw this available as a book of the month choice for october. it was on my want to read list, so it was an instant purchase for me and i also went into it thinking it would be an easy 5 star read.
the first 100 pages were good and i was thinking i had a 4 star book in my hands, but then i just kind of lost interest???? i don’t know.
i suppose i just wanted MORE, but not more pages because a 300 page book usually takes me 2-3 days to get through, but this just felt like it took me forever ...more

i think what you have to keep in mind when going into ariadne is that it is written by a different author, so, yes, the writing is going to be different. don’t go into ariadne thinking you’re going to get a madeline miller book. that is not me saying jennifer saint isn’t a talented writer, because she definitely is i loved ariadne!! she’s just a different writer than madeline miller and we need to appreciate her way of writing greek mythology retellings ...more

what an incredible debut novel from emilia hart! i will definitely be reading whatever she puts out next and i am so happy i chose this as my book of the month pick back in march!
it was definitely different than i expected, but it was perfect! i highly recommend if you love a good book with strong female characters! hart also does a phenomenal job with the three different storylines and intertwining each! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (i honestly might change this to a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!?)...more

this novel is set during a time period i’ve never read about when reading historical fiction, so i definitely learnt while reading. as someone who has travelled to barbados many times, i was surprised to open the book and see the first scenes were set in barbados. this made it easy to really picture the land, sugar cane fields, and areas described, but it also hit a little closer to home as we’ve made so many friends from barbados after traveling there for so many years.
overall, this is a story about black slavery, freedom, and what one will do for family.
it wasn’t a 5 star for me, but will definitely recommend and pass on my copy for my friends to read.
this was shearer’s debut novel and i’m definitely interested in what she does next! ...more

in reality, it was VERY difficult to finish this book truthfully, i almost didn’t and the only reason i DID is because it wasn’t a library book. had it been a library book, i absolutely would have put it down and never looked back. however, it was my january book of the month pick and i am honestly so disappointed over how much i disliked this book ...more
surprised by such a low rating on this book. i think it’s actually the lowest rated book i’ve read this year. however, i don’t agree with it at all.

i will be honest, i’ve been avoiding this book for a while. i chose it back in may for my book of the month choice, but didn’t pick it up until now.
i had surgery in april and for a few months following that, i was majorly in a fantasy era kind of avoiding real life topics.
in the half moon, we meet malcolm and jess, a husband and wife who are going through several different challenges with their relationship, careers, finances, etc. these topics just felt too heavy for me to read about for a while.
however, i am so happy i finally picked up this book. it’s a solid 4 ⭐️ read and i don’t think i will ever be forgetting this story. it is truly beautiful.
after reading ask again yes and the half moon by keane, i think i can officially say she’s going to be an auto-buy author for me. i loved ask again yes and the half moon definitely did not disappoint (don’t let the goodreads rating fool you!!)
i suppose my *one* complaint is the ever lasting chapters ...more

loveable characters, beautiful writing, and a story that will always stay in my heart. i’ll likely have a craving to read this book every year moving forward.
highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a good historical fiction novel.
