HReally strong start I love everything witches/pagan, especially in a colonial setting, and our protagonist is up against quite a bit of challenges. However, we end up spending a lot of time with Samson being misled or captured by other natural forces, which got confusing. I didn’t know who was working with who or why, and it took up page space that I think could’ve been used for something else. It also wasn’t interesting; I don’t really care about if a goat demon man is fighting with a shaman who is also kind of a demon. I want to see colonists get their shit rocked!!! (Eventually they do thankfully and it’s great comeuppance)
The drawings are really cool though and added a lot to the story. I wish more adult books had pictures in them...more

This one started off so tantalizing with good yearning and plot idea!!!!! ..and then halfway through devolved into nonsense. Spicy scenes got repetitive and played out. The characters were amazingly stupid—if you saw your dad over your dead mom, would you really not ask any questions???? You’re just going to immediately assume he killed her without any confirmation??? Fuckin idiot.
Also there was some weird shit about what it means to be a woman and how it’s related to having sex with someone and like no? Your identity as a woman is not based on when a man makes you feel like one.
Oh and the plot?? It’s lost to the ether. The premise of having three men to choose to marry is quickly solved halfway through when Jillian gets with Grimm, and then they kinda fart around for 100 pages until a flimsy antagonist is pulled out from a dusty drawer, but only for 50 pages when they are defeated in what has to be the most anti climatic climax I have ever read. It’s no joke one sentence that states how everyone in the rival clan died that day. Then the wedding in the next chapter, and then the book is over. Seriously. You’re expecting me to believe this romance continuously delivers to climax every time and yet the plot can’t even do it once? Thank you, next....more
