Okay, I don’t think Kandi Steiner’s books are for me. I DNFed the first book, but decided to give the second one a try. Well, I couldn’t finish it either. I tried really hard, but I found myself never wanting to pick this book up. It has been over 3 days since I started reading it and I’m not even a quarter of the way through.
The characters were just so immature and whiny. The plot was also really boring. I couldn’t connect to anything honestly. So yeah I’m mad at myself for DNFing three books in a row...more

I’ve only read one Kandi Steiner book and that was back in 2020. I remember enjoying it and I have been seeing this series on my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ a lot so I decided to give the first book a try.
It was a pretty generic hockey romance book tbh. The romance was insta-lusty. However, my biggest issue was the leads. They were so annoying. Maven was so judgemental and rude, while Vince was a playboy man whore. I couldn’t get over how immature they were.
I’m DNFing this one, but I might check out the rest of the series though as I heard it gets better.
This book is only around 240 pages, but it’s just not remotely interesting to me. Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future, but right now I’m so DNF at 37%

I’m kind of bummed this wasn’t as good as the first book. I had a hard time relating to the characters. Killian was way too hot and cold for me. I also couldn’t take how much of an asshole he was to Laura. Maybe some readers are into that, but it didn’t work for me personally. I felt like he hurt her feelings more than he showed how much he cared for her. Meanwhile, Laura was such a boring FMC. I hated reading her POV because it was so unfeeling. She was just there and sort of forgettable.
The author continues to use dual timeline, but it was very unnecessary this time around and it didn’t add anything to the story. The flashbacks weren’t even consistent. We would jump between things that happened three months ago and then things that happened when Killian was 17 years old and it just made me confused.
The back and forth between Laura and Killian also got annoying after about chapter ten. They didn’t have any chemistry and they would constantly just hook up. There was no depth or meaningful connection between these two characters.
All in all, this didn’t have the same spark that made me fall in love with the first book in the series. I’m not even sure I’ll read the next one since I hate the pregnancy trope ...more

I really enjoyed the authors modern retelling of Emma by Jane Austen in the first book, but I was a bit hesitant about reading the second book since it would be a retelling of Pride and Prejudice. While I love P&P, the story has the miscommunication trope which I’m not a fan of. I have been reading so many books with that trope lately that I was just over it here.
Also, maybe because I was very familiar with P&P, but the plot followed way too closely to the original source material. There was nothing that was new or refreshing. It just made the story feel very slow and bland to me. None of the characters had the charm of their original counterparts either. I couldn’t feel the chemistry at all between Will and Lizzy and the progression from dislike to love was too sudden.
Overall, this was an okay read, but definitely not as good as the first book. ...more

I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. They felt very flat and one-dimensional. There was also supposed to be some hate to love between Laney and Cutter, but it lasted about five seconds. The plot was a bit boring as well and I’m not even remotely curious to read to the end.
So, guess I’m still on the hunt for a good sports romance book with volleyball...more

The premise of this book really intrigued me, but I don’t think it was executed very well. I struggled so much to get through this book. It was painstakingly slow. I could never get into the story because of it. There were even some fight scenes in the gladiators arena, which you think would be fast paced and full of action, yet somehow those chapters were the most boring for me. The author wasn’t able to describe it in a way that would excite me and keep me on the edge of my seat. It fell flat for me. There were some modern day lingo thrown in at times which took me out of the story too, since it just didn’t feel right in this fantasy world the author had created.
It also doesn’t help that the characters are just carbon copies of other characters we usually see in the fantasy genre. They brought absolutely nothing new. I mean the FMC Maeve was the typical naive princess who thinks she can save her kingdom and that she knows best. And the MMC Leith was the broody man who can wield a sword. And the romance was basically insta-lust. There was no build-up and they are all in with each other immediately.
This is definitely not the last time I’m going to be drawn by a pretty cover, but I hope the content will at least be better than this....more
